Matt Simms saved this season on September 25, 2010 against UAB. Our defense was playing like garbage and the running game was getting nowhere. Matt Simms stayed calm and lead us to a victory with a great TD pass in 2OT. Without this victory there would have been no bowl game and perhaps no reason to get excited about anything happening this season or next. :good!:

You seem defensive about Simms, though you started the thread and nobody is even talking about him anymore. I don't think many people disliked Simms. He was extremely tough, and did an okay job at working with what he was given. Bray just has better pocket presence, and can throw with a little more ju-ju. Don't let that hurt your feelings.

:cray: haha
I know that no one is talking about him which is why I started the thread. I'm just saying that the win over UAB was just as important as the win over UK (other than continuing the streak). I'm going :loco: just like everyone else but Matt's time as the starter wasn't bad.

I was on the 2d row behind the sidelines and watched him a few times. He never once acted like he was mad about not being out there. He was warming up the whole game, not sure why but...... He handled the whole thing I believe fairly classy.

Bray will keep the seat warm until Worley is ready. Simms should look into graduating early and moving on.

That's what Simms did for Bray. I don't see Worley threatening Bray very much at all.

Matt Simms was the third best QB to take snaps that day and were it not for the UAB kicker having the kind of day that makes you long for Daniel Lincoln-type consistency, we lose badly.

Our defense and o-line have improved since then. The change at QB wasn't the only thing that caused the 4 game winning streak

Not to mention the level of opposition. Is playing against Oregon, Florida, Alabama, LSU and South Carolina defenses the same as Memphis, Ole Miss, Vandy and Kentucky defenses? I will let the Simms detractors decide.

Dooley played it right. Bray is the long term answer and Dooley waited until the OL matured some and the opposition defenses significantly weakened to put him in. He now has over 5 games of experience working with the young receivers which should help in the future.

Simms took the beating early with tougher opponents and new OL and then the keys were handed to Bray.

Simms made it where he is because of name. Go get a poor kid with talent and pay for him to go to all the camps his daddy paid for. You will have a much better QB than him. Anyone with his training since childhood could perform at his level.

This thread just made me think of a cool feature we should have on VN.

Dear mods, remember the old "thanks" button that lived a short life? How about a "delete this thread" button instead? Maybe 50 votes gets a thread deleted and whoever started it is suspended from starting new threads for about a month. That's a lot more fun than the "ignore" feature.
