Neither one is great but who would you rather have. Rick pulled one hell of a over time win could matt do the same? Both have the same ball skills.

At this point in Simms career, I'd take Clausen. He was what Simms needs to be. Consistent, but good enough to win if he needs too.

I'd take Simms, at this point. He's more of a threat (deep and outside routes) than Rick... and doesn't have anywhere near the OL and running game going for him that Clausen had.

Simms, if he has time to make his reads and can relax while making his throws, will be more than a serviceable QB.

I didn't think he was terrible today. It was more of a combination of negatives that kept us from moving the ball, not just him.

Rick Clausen was slightly better than Jim Bob Cooter and Bo Hardergree. The reason we beat LSU when he was the QB was due to Gerald Riggs and Cedric Houston in the 4th.

Simms is playing behind the worst line in UT history and has improved week to week. He's not Manning but he's not nearly as bad as some of you make him out to be.

matt simms. not even close

at least matt can stretch the field with the deep pass. rick had a hard time throwing the ball down the field 30+ yards, among other things.

Simms is better than Rick Clausen but has less talent around him. (I'm not saying Simms is great or even very good.) If I can have the line Rick had, I'd take Simms over Rick Clausen.

Agreed 110%- Simms at his very best will not lose a game. He is not at the point to where you could say, Simms....go get us a TD and a win. He may get there and I hope he does. Clausen won the AHANT Award- All Heart And No Talent award

I am going to agree with sentence two, but I have to say "common man" to sentence one. The line is bad but there were times he had forever, for...eeee....ver, foooor...eeeeeeee...veeeeer to throw and still either 1) missed the receiver high or behind, or 2) got sacked.

Need open receivers to throw it to, and I recall several drops in key situations that would have kept drives alive or scored TDs (Stocker's drop). Can't put it all on Simms, everyone contributed to the poor play. It takes seasoning to get to the point where you have all parts mesh together.

That's because our receivers weren't open on those plays. You can't throw it to someone who's covered.

Yeah--what he said.
