Matt Giampapa was a walk on long snapper at Michigan State. It was just announced on Lansing radio that he is leaving school to move closer to home.

I know UT was in on him in the beginning. He is from Jackson TN.

Go get him.

from last year: Adding Giampapa Is A Snap

Thanks for the info, but I'm pretty confident in our long snappers. It's the ones that snap under center and in shotgun that concern me. :)

I know he was left home from the bowl game for "Violation of Team Rules" But I seem to recall that this was not a major violation, and that he had more issues with "wanting to be closer to home" than anything else.

He was on the field for the spring game, and he was actually the 1st team long snapper all of last season.

I think the issue was for the bowl game is minor and would go away with new scenery. Would love to see him in Knoxville.

We'll trade Deanthony Arnett for him, seems fair.

since you mentioned it: Arnett's waiver is taking an abnormally long time to go through. There was a set of "additional questions" that he had to reply to regarding
1) where is your father on the donor list
2) what happens if your father doesnt get a transplant

Kind of strange line of questioning considering tNCAA granted a waiver to the Carlisle kid from USC to ND simply because his father changed jobs.

Also: dArnett's father was at the Spring game last week. It was the first time that he saw his son play since he graduated from HS. Not that it matters in football, but in the grand scheme of life, I thought that was pretty cool.

Ok, back to longsnapping. :hi:

I am more concerned with the one kicking the ball after it is snapped then I am with any of the others....

Per friend of family, they are going to meet with Coach Dooley and seems like done deal. He would be eligible to play this year since he was not on scholarship at MSU. He was not happy there and wanted to be closer to home. The family had also gotten calls from other programs including Texas A & M.

Yes, I believe he will walk on, at least initially. His deal at MSU was that he would go scholarship after a year of playing. I would bet something similar would be done at UT.

The kid was the starting long snapper at MSU as a true freshman, so I would expect him to be the same at UT (Im assuming of course, because I dont know who you already have on the roster)

The kid is good at what he does.

Best of luck to him. I hope things work out better for him at UT.

I guess this is good news. dont really keep up with the long snappers too much. But I actully think we had one drafted to the ravens a few years ago or maybe he signed a FA deal.
