I have been wondering lately about Smokey. Who takes care of him, brings him to the game...ect....? I dont know any details about that and it interests me. Here at aTm it is a corp cadet's job to care for Revillee all year long. She bit the guy on week 2 I think and they put her on "discipline refferal". Basically she couldnt go to the game that night. I swear, they treat that dog like a human or better. When she barks in class, it is dismissed. Period. Seriously, Ive seen it happen. Crazy traditions here in aggieville. Im sure yall have stories too. I just wondered if yall had a similar situation there in Knoxville. Thanks VN!

I know it used to be one of the fraternitys...I think AGR, that took care of all the gameday stuff. And I think I remember reading that there is some family that takes care of him the rest of the time.

wow, one frat gets all the honor. That kinda stinks for the rest of em if you ask me. Its just like the corp here getting to do all the big time tradition stuff. But hell, we dont even have cheerleaders at aTm. And, on that note, the corp started the tradition themselves with some stray dog that showed up when girls couldnt even go to aTm so I guess it makes sense. Still sad for the rest of em'.

collies are boring. I bought the only type of hound that wont kill my wife's Shih Tzu, a plain ole' Basset Hound! I wanted a blue tick, but they said it wouldnt be pretty. I settled on the basset and have been quite pleased. Mr. Bojangles wears a VOL sweater and loves Saturdays. He aint smokey, but he's a cool little dude. Gotta go, see yall Friday. Have a good one VN. Gig em Ags and Sic em Smokey!

ps, thanks for the mascot info fellas.

I was an AGR. It's two guys from the frat that go out to Smokey's owner's house(name escapes me right now) and pick him up. From what they told me usually they are greeted with a pretty lavish spread of food from the family. They take care of him all day and then usually take him home that night. He does not stay at the fraternity house, he was born and raised by a family from the area.

I am a brother of Alpha Gamma Rho and we have taken care of Smokey since 1973. Two brothers take care of him from Thursday night until Sunday afternoon. And before you ask we DO NOT give him alcohol, we realize this is large responsibilty and would not jeopardize by doing this. Even though I am not one of the two Smokey Trainers I have done my share of taking him out to use the bathroom, feeding him, and playing with him.

What is your number? I am 907, that's where my name comes from. Mr. Earl Hudson is his owner's name.

Anybody know what's the best place to be to get a chance at petting Smokey? I took my son to the Alabama game last year and we were walking around the river side of the stadium and happened to see them bring Smokey out on the golf cart. My son stepped over to pet him, but the guy riding shotgun told the driver "don't stop". And off they went.

So I had the wife at the Georgia game this year and after game time she asked where we saw Smokey. So we went around to the same field level exit, but no Smokey. But low and behold there was pitfuil ole UGA, with the type of face everyone in red was wearing about that time. Anyway, the wife got to pet UGA. But we still have a need to pet the real stud, Smokey! Just wondering if there a time and place where they let the fans get a pet and picture.

I thought I read somewhere that he was bred in Paris, TN.....Can someone clarify that for me, I remember hearing that all the smokey's came from Paris, TN. may have just been a bunch of bologna though.

Didn't the owners used to live in East Knoxville? I'm from that side of town, and my mother has mentioned the name of a family that used to own him. Of course, this was a previous Smokey, not the one we have now. I want to say their last name was Brooks.

I've gotten several pics of him/with him in front of the football facility after games(i.e. where the players get off the bus before the game and walk down the Letterman wall). The trainers walk him back to the AGR house and that's usually the route they take. You can catch him with the band before games too like everyone said, but it's harder to get pics with him. After the game at that area is usually where I've had success.

Maybe you guys shouldn't be blaming phil:

Smokey VIII is the winningest Smokey, having compiled a record of 91-22 (.805), with two SEC titles and the 1998 national championship. :good!:

The newest Smokey, Smokey IX (left), began his post at the 2004 Peach Bowl :bad:
