Marvin West on Rick Byrd

What a class act. I'm the same age as Rick, so, we share the same history and memories of the same players at Tennessee. When I was 16 years old and newly following Tennessee sports like a religion, I remember consuming every word in the Sunday edition of the Knoxville Journal about the previous day's game. Much of it written by his dad, Ben Byrd. Also a class act, and one of the best sports writers of all time.

Dang it Marvin, you just keep producing pieces like this that leave the less talented among us speechless. Thanks, ole friend for all you do, have done and will do in the future. :)

Great article about a great person & coach. So many tributes: “Integrity. Class. Kind,” said country music star Vince Gill, a golfing buddy and passionate fan. “Pretty good words to describe Coach. About as good a friend as I’ve ever met.” He & another legendary Nashville coach, Don Meyer of David Lipscomb, were similar as their teams fought many epic games. Thanks, Mr. West, for another gem.
