Marquette after Cuonzo Martin Per ESPN

Maybe some of you all don't realize that Martin IS a good coach, or at least he is above par. NO ONE is beating down the door to talk with Josh Pastner, and I think he has underachieved the entire time that he has been at Memphis. I actually think he has had more talent in Memphis than CM has had at UT.

This times a thousand. Memphis fans I know have had it with Pastner, and have been screaming that they would switch for CCM in a heartbeat.
To me, the comparison brings to mind the old adage about a good coach being able to beat you, and then being able to take your players and beat you again. UT would have beaten Memphis this year, and made them like it.

0-3 vs Memphis. Not saying Pastner is better. Just saying.

What was our record this year vs ranked teams?

I dislike Memphis as much as the next guy, but the guy wins 75% of his games, beat some very good teams this year and has went to 4 straight NCAAs, all in his mid 30s. I'd take that all day.

I can buy Memphis fans aren't thrilled with Pastner, I wouldn't be either given his results, but switch with Martin? Not sure about that one.

Coach Fulmer Syndrome. You can't run off EVERY coach if they have bad years. Keep doing that and we will be in worse shape than Kentucky is in football. Stability is the name of the game.

I was just pointing out these reasons probably have a lot more to do with the issues CM has with the fanbase as opposed to racism - which I think is an absolute absurd claim. Al Sharptonish.

With Cuonzo interviewing with Marquette I would say he's gone even if not to Marquette. He doesn't have the best fan support now and he's probably lost some more by looking around.

That's because there are no Memphis fans who would trade Pastner for Counzo. When you look at their overall body of work, JP >>>> CM. Recruits better, wins more, makes the tournament every yr (except his 1st). Just needs to start advancing past 2nd round. But apples to apples, he has more NCAA appearances and wins that Calipari did in his 1st 5 yrs at Memphis.

FTR, Josh was pursued by NC State when they hired Gottfried and USC offered $2m+ last year and then hired the FGCU coach when Josh turned them down.

He has done fine and shouldn't be on the hot seat. But, many of the wins came in C-USA. I guess you can make jokes comparing C-USA to the SEC, but C-USA was terrible. Because of that, the winning percentage isn't all that impressive. But, he had a good year this year beating 5 ranked teams.

I think VQ mentioned $1.8 is what Hart would offer Zo

Seems weird to say they'd offer him that but wouldn't match at $2m.

But if you bring him back you've got to extend him with a raise so I guess that does make sense. You can't fire him.

Makes sense for Martin to go to Marquette. He's at his peak thus far and has negotiating power has ties in the Midwest.

You're misguided. This fan base is obviously racist. They run off a black man but petition for a Jew to take his place.

If he a was an Arab Jew I bet they wouldn't have loved Pearl as much. Ashkenazi Jews like Pearl are still White. Its funny people act like the concept could not possibly true for any fan at all. So are you telling me that 100% of UT fans are not racists? There is no group that is 100% without prejudice. But play dumb if you want.

Good point. When they canned BP, they thought he was an Arab Jew. When they found out he wasn't, they started the petition. How foolish of us not to see their bigoted motives!

It's usually the ones that allege racism that bring up the race issue...when its a non factor to the rest of us. And then when we point out it being a non factor, we are not opening our eyes. Nothing like liberal logic...

Rofl. Yeah. No group is without racism but that's not even a point here.

I also remember you bringing up race before. Martin doesn't suck because he's black and he doesn't get a pass because he's one of the few black coaches in our league either. And the only time race mattered with Pearl is losing Josh Shelby and even that is a stretch and he would have likely lost him anyways.

I'm sure there are a handful who are bothered by Martin's race. It's just such a non factor that it's puzzling why you bring it up. Preach on, Al.

the race talk is beyond stupid and has nothing to do with CM leaving or staying and why 99% of fans have that opinion. Why in the world that dude wants to focus on some methhead that thinks he's arian nation vs what happened on the court makes little sense

Calling people racist is judgmental and racist in itself. People had issues with Martin due to his lack of development of outstanding talent. I was very happy to see the run in the dance, but at the same time very disappointed that it took so long for him to get it out of this team. And I am even more concerned about what he has built for the future of UT basketball.

Think you missed his sarcasm

@wesrucker247: If Cuonzo's gone, his players don't know. And knowing him, that would surprise me. Not saying he hasn't/won't take it. Just don't think yet.
