Mark Schlabach: "Dawgs-Vols Was Tops"

The end had to be one of the most deflating 40 seconds of football I've ever experienced.

I was in the student section that day - scared when we scored because we were all jumping, and you know how little space there is stand.

It was 6 years ago. If you havent gotten over it by now then I bet you get the shakes when 2005 is in conversation.

Nah. Has more to do with my exterme hatred of UGA combined with the absolute meltdown that happened after our extraordinary fortune.

Then: I was mad

Now: I see that it was just a great college football game that didn't go our way.

I still hate UGA and the fact we put 51 on them last year when they had the #6 D in the nation helps that hate.

I bet if you were at the game, in the student section you would feel differently.

I like how he mentions UT's inability to stop the pass to the tight end. That's been a problem for years. It's like we don't even bother to cover them sometimes.

The most electrified I've ever seen Neyland. 45 game seconds later it was a funeral. No one in the student section will ever forget that game.

I won't forget it. I'm not going to claim that the game should never be spoken of. I've been in Neyland for the highs and some lows but I'm not going to claim that one hell of a college football game should never be spoken of.

Vanderbilt 2005, that should never be spoken of.

It was light hearted humor. You can rest now.

I'd say it's just about the equivalent of the Bluegrass Miracle. The stadium was shaking, as VIA said, it was somewhat scary. I realize people have been there for highs. This was the highest I've ever seen it. Then, it was the lowest. This all happened within about 2 minutes. It's the quick contrast that no one will forget. I seriously would have preferred a good punch to the stomach.

I'd say this game was about 5,000,000 times more disappointing than the Florida loss in '01.

It felt as if I was punched in the stomach that day. I don't get AS emotionally involved in UT sports as I did when I was a student. But that one made me feel like I did when I was a student and we lost a game.
