I hate it for the students, and especially the players. Have a friend who's son is a Warrior.

This story has made national news and it's an awful black eye on a great rivalry. I can understand the students playing pranks. I don't think there is anything wrong with playing pranks as long as nothing is damaged and no one gets hurt. I don't understand what goes through someone's mind though that would make them think it's a good idea to deface their own school's stuff. There are much better ways to motivate your team.

This is what I am talking about it is either oh MC is the best or Pirate Pride. It's crazy that all you car about is the football when yes it would get better if we do consolidate because you would have all the best from both schools to play and we could have better facilities because we aren't pouring money into 9 schools in our county. I am an 01 graduate from MC and a Warrior till I die but this is about crazy in our community.

Sorry Man, but Jasper just isn't on the same level as South Pittsburg. I can see why YALL would want US ------South Pitt is the bomb. No offense; it is what it is. We have the money, facilities and support. There is a reason the current SP Senior class has NEVER lost to Marion ; from pee wee on up.

I really didn't see that big of deal with the spray painting as that's happened almost everywhere at one time or another. Now since the coaches done it they should have went that morning after it was found by students etc. to the principle etc and say we did as motivation and will pay to have it removed.

However its now went way beyond that with this coaching staff now apparently stealing rivals playbooks & play sheets before games (possibly breaking & entering or certainly entering without knowledge) to having (paying) a former college player to actually practice with the team in full uniform.

First off I never said Marion was on the same level as SP two totally different styles of football because no we don't have the speed y'all do. Second of all I can tell you must still be in school or just graduated a few years ago because all you care about is what the score is in the rivalry and who has the streak going. Yes he programs would benefit because you wouldn't have 9 different schools in the county getting money. Yes when I was in school yeah I cared about the streaks and the rivalry but you need to look beyond the football field and see the bigger picture. Marion County will be jealous of South Pittsburg because of the speed y'all have and Y'all will always be jealous of Marion County because we have the County name on our helmets.

Wow... I haven't seen someone use "The bomb" in 15 years.

Jealousy over the county name on football helmets? Amazing! That takes jealousy to a new level.

Yes we have 3 schools within 20 miles of each other and We are the only school with the county name on our schools and the others are just named after their towns. A lot of the people at the other schools call their school the Marion County Pirates and Marion County Tigers. I think it's crazy and we should just have one school.

I can agree that spray paint has been done lots of places. In fact it was done at my school (Hixson) the year after I graduated. I just think there are better ways for grown men to motivate their players.

WHAT? Jealous of "County" on your helmets? Boy that's a reach. I just don't know how you "once" cared about the rivalry ----but now you don't? THERE'S YOUR DIFFERENCE. SPHS Tradition never wanes. I SUPPOSE youse guys would want the "new school" to be Marion County High????? LMAO. NYET.

For operational purposes there should be one high school in Marion County, around Kimbal or just north. If sports traditions are that important that the FB team could play as the Pirates, the basketball the Tigers, baseball the Warriors, etc etc. Maybe the consolidated middle school FB team could be the Warriors. Some or all of the FB games could be played in South Pittsburg. Having multiple team names would be unique or downright odd, but it would at least somewhat hold the traditions. It certainly beats having multiple high schools in Marion County, which is disgraceful.

That is absurd. How in the world could having multiple community h.s.'s be disgraceful? Marion County isn't exactly a sprawling metropolis. With all due respect, not quite prime time.

Marion County High accepts self-imposted sanctions for violating state's practice rule
After meeting with Marion County High School administrators earlier this week, the TSSAA has accepted a two-step, self-imposed sanctions by the school for violating the state's practice rule.

The state's governing body accepted the recommendation by school administrators to cancel the allowed 10 days of spring practice in 2014 and also extend the summer dead period, in which players and coaches are not allowed to workout or practice on school grounds, by two weeks. The dead period for all schools runs from June 22 through July 5, but Marion will begin theirs June 15 and continue through July 12.

Those penalties are for the violation of having allowed former South Pittsburg player Raquis Hale practice with the team for four days in the week leading up to Marion's game against South Pittsburg Nov. 1.

According to TSSAA executive director Bernard Childress, the case against the school is now considered closed. There will not be any additional punishment for two football assistants allegedly taking playbooks from opponents' locker rooms.

“The allegations about breaking into opponents' locker rooms and stealing playbooks is in the hands of law enforcement now and is beyond our jurisdiction,” Childress said. “During our meeting with the administrators, and in all conversations with them throughout this process, they have been very cooperative. They were very disappointed and apologetic that those things happened.”

Childress informed the school of his decision by letter, which was received this afternoon. Essentially, the school will be punished one week for every day that Hale practiced with the Marion football team, which is the standard penalty issued by the TSSAA for similar cases in the past.

Multiple high schools reduces the number of opportunities students in Marion County have and it is more costly.
