Now that players are legally getting paid, there's no legal barrier to prevent the NCAA from treating them like slaves.

I wonder if it's a play by the NCAA to goad the players into a collective bargaining agreement, which seems to be the only available route back to sanity.

Why are they doing this when all the fans don't want it? The SEC and Big 10 are destroying college athletics.
my guess is that it's because right now nobody even pays attention to the play in games on Tuesday and Wednesday. they want more eyeballs earlier in the week.

but imagine being a team that otherwise would have been in the field of 64 but you got pulled out to play this stupid play-in tournament and now you get beat and don't even make it to Thursday 😂

TLDR version: it's set to be officially announced in May. The play-in games would go from 8 teams to 24 teams, which means more teams will have to play their way into the formal tournament. 8 teams that otherwise would have made the field of 64 will now have to play in the new play-in tournament.

The primary driver of this move hasn't been money, but rather access for at-large bids for power conferences. The expansion has been pushed by power conferences, which have grown throughout the course of the current deal.

When was the last time the fans mattered, even a little, with regard to a rule or policy change in pro or big time college sports? The answer? Never.

The monster has an insatiable appetite and must therefore to continue to grow.
