The Journal Times Online > Local News > Racine man buys Favre Jets jersey - six years ago

RACINE — Joe Braun can see the future.

He may not be able to predict the weather or guess lottery numbers, but when it comes to football Joe knows what the future holds.

He bought a misprinted Brett Favre New York Jets jersey six years ago.

“I knew he was going to play for the Jets someday,” joked Joe, 55 of Racine.

Gregory Shaver Journal Times Joe Braun said he bought this Brett Favre New York Jets jersey from J.C. Penney six years ago.

But Joe said he actually never saw Favre’s trade coming and would never have bought the jersey if he had noticed it was a misprint.

Braun bought the jersey from the JC Penney store at Regency Mall, 5538 Durand Ave. It was a Christmas present for his wife, Jeannette, 54.

“I picked it up, wrapped it and never even noticed,” Joe said. “She opened it on Christmas morning. She put it on and our son noticed it was wrong.”

The jersey had Favre’s name and number, but was the wrong green and had the wrong logo on the sleeve.

“My son said we should keep it, that it might be worth something someday,” Joe said.

The Brauns held on to the jersey, but not as a keepsake. Jeannette wore it for Green Bay Packers games, even at Lambeau Field.

“We have season tickets,” Jeannette said. “We go to about three games a year, and no one ever even mentioned it.”

But Jeannette won’t be wearing it to Lambeau this year, she said, because people might notice now and get upset.

The Brauns daughter, Lisa Fiorita, wore the jersey to work last Friday. She said she got mixed reactions from her co-workers at Ruud Lighting, 9201 Washington Ave.

“It was a lot of surprise,” said Lisa, 27 of Racine. “Everybody wants to know where you got one (and) how did you get that. One Packer fan was kind of upset because he didn’t like Favre going over there” to the Jets.

Fiorita said someone offered her $500 for the jersey, but the family plans to keep their Favre misprint.

“He got us to a Super Bowl,” Jeannette said of Favre. “We’re really going to miss him.”

The family said they will root for both the Packers and the Jets this football season – until the Super Bowl that is.

That's hilarious. The husband is paying such attention to detail as he picks out his wife's Christmas gift that he doesn't even notice that he's purchasing a Brett Favre New York Jets jersey. That's just priceless! Apparently any damn thing in the store would have sufficed.

Thats how i shop. Now we've just given up on buying each other presents, as it's stealing from Peter to pay Paul. My dogs get more gifts than i do.

to be fair, blindfolding yourself and picking something in a store at random will probably give you a better chance of her liking the present rather than really trying hard to get something you think she'd like
