Josh Malone, Tennessee Vols football pushing to bring back title of 'Wide Receiver U.'

A snippet....

"The surprising part came when Malone ran by the rest of the secondary. He certainly surprised reliable fifth-year safety Marcus Maye, who sorely misjudged Malone’s speed and took a poor angle.

Malone, always a soft-spoken kid and usually emotionless, smiled when asked about the ability to show his speed on the play that essentially iced Tennessee’s come-from-behind win over the Gators.

“I saw the last guy … and then I looked at the pylon and just said, ‘I’ve got to get there, man,’” Malone said.

A four-catch, 91-yard, one-score day against Florida moved Malone to 287 yards and five touchdowns on 13 catches in the Vols’ first four games of the season.

Malone averaged 10.0 yards per catch as a freshman and 13.1 yards per catch as a sophomore and collected just three touchdowns in 24 games. Through four games this season, he’s got five scores and is averaging 22.1 yards per catch. He’s on pace to break his previous career high in receiving yards (405) in the next couple of weeks."

Malone is having a fantastic season.

Yes he is & he's doing most of it by himself because other than Tyler Byrd with the shorter passes & Jennings we don't have anybody else to show they can step up. It was time for Malone to be the player we thought & he knew that he could be.

Key ingredient to championship football teams:

One go-to receiver.

Thank you, Josh Malone! Stepped up big time. GBO!

Could not be happier for anyone else on the team than I am for Malone! His career at Tennessee is finally becoming what we envisioned, and I know he envisioned, that cold February day when he inked with UT. Way to go Josh, you've earned it son! GBO, Go JM!

Just goes to show that just because players start out their careers slower when they're younger, doesn't mean they won't be great someday.

Been very pleased with his play so far this year. Been a very nice surprise.

Less running extended handoffs, and more passes to Malone. 3 catches a game isn't enough.

If we can somehow get Preston going then the sky is the limit. The first drive against App I saw everything I had been reading come to fruition. Let's hope he gets going just like Malone.
