it wouldn't be an upset, but i was wondering who he thought would beat us before the UGA game

Any team with a good passing game, i.e. South Carolina, Kentucky, etc will have a good matchup. UT is very inexperienced in the secondary. If Cal passes the ball well, they may get the upset.
4 names: Nate Longshore, LaValle Hawkins, DeSean Jackson and Robert Jordan. Oh yeah, they have a passing game. I'm not spewing this stuff just to rile up the Fulmerites. I've thought about the matchups and I really think Cal should rack up huge #s on the UT secondary.

This might be a reversal of last year's game when UT was burning Cal's secondary.

Now, i'm not going to discount the possibilities of all of what is mentioned above about SC, KY and Cal playing TN happening, but at the same time, you're just going to have a hard time convincing me that we will not only lose to Cal, FL and GA, but also to SC, and KY.....hell if we're that bad, throw Bama and ARK in there as well.

we have question marks no doubt, but i just find it hard to believe that we have so many questions that it's going to result in a 7-5 to 5-7 type year. Especially considering that GA has questions all along it's oline and dline. and while SC should be better, i'd hardly call blake mitchell the 2nd coming of Steve Tanneyhill. And while KY may match up against us offensively, i don't know that i've seen or heard any reason to think they will be so much better on D this season.

i could see us losing 3 games this year, to who is debatable. Which in my opinion would be an average year. anything more than that, they've exceeded my expectation for this year, but anything less than that and the season was an complete and utter disaster.

Yikes.A Vol board afraid to mention Fulmer?
I actually ate dinner with a Michigan fan last night that said Fulmer had lost more games in his last 3 years than Majors had in his last 6 at UT.Turns out it wasn't that far off.

Many of the whippersnappers on the board are seeing a drought for the first time since they've been following the Vols. I remember the early 80's being similar. The late 70's were just bad.

Phil's time has come and gone. With the rise of UF, UGS, LSU, and now Bama we can either stand pat and be content with 8 and 9 win seasons or we can make a major move. I believe that the fans deserve champioship football at least once every 4-5 years. Am I really asking too much?

Bama is on the rise??

I don't mean to look like I am defending Fulmer here . . . but winning percentages just didn't have much to do with Majors' departure.

Regardless, there's an illusion that Fulmer elevated the program after taking over for Majors. He did, but the program is now less successful then it was when Majors left.

First of all, if it happened, how can it be an illusion?

Secondly, Majors last couple of teams were losing 3 games a year, so I'm not sure how that is so much better than the level we're at now. I don't think the program is where we want it to be, but I don't think it's quite as bad as you think either.

The reality is, Majors left a better program then Fulmer will be leaving the next head coach. The illusion is the opposite.

Compare Fulmer's 2-5 Bowl record vs Major's 4-1 record. Major's 2 SEC championships vs Fulmer 0-2 SEC champ. games.

Even I am willing to concede this point. Things were really only as good as they seemed when the NC was brought home. The converse, however is also true. Things were as bad as they seemed in 05. Now if we could just get a competitive team into an SEC championship game.
