Not only is he picking Auburn to win but also goes on to say:

"Auburn is a better team than Tennessee, but who knows, that hog-jowl guy up there at Tennessee has been the luckiest guy in the world," said Majors, who won three SEC titles at Tennessee and a national championship at Pittsburgh in 1977.

CPF could call Majors a drunkened has-been, who never took TENNESSEE to the next level.

But I bet he wont.

Coach Majors has got to be one of the most bitter people in the world. It's been twelve years now coach, let it go, pleeeeeease. You're a much better person than that.

Can't prove it by me. Hey Majors...

:Bbiteme:

CPF not only took Tennessee to a new level ON the field, but replacing that illiterate, ignorant drunk Majors took UT to a new level on the sideline as well.

Despite what Johnny said, if you don't know him please reserve your personal slander. He is a friend of mine and I hang out with him frequently.

I don't have to know him personally to know he's a bitter guy. I feel as bad as anyone about the way he was shown the door, but that was a long time ago, grow up and move on. As for the alcoholic comments, I heard about him hanging out at Appleby's out west before games wayyyyy too many times for it to just be talk. Nice comments. Pretty low class Johnny.

If you hang out with him then tell him to get over it.
#1 no matter what he thinks it was the faction of boosters he alienated that took his job, it was the fans that saw him thinking he was untouchable that allowed the booster to take his job.
#2 he returned UT to a power program but he had taken them as far as he could, the game had passed him by and his return trip to Pitt proved it.

Majors did some fine things at UT but he also hurt the school with his attitude and his recruiting suffered due to his thinking he was the second coming of Bear Bryant or Gen. Neyland and he was neither. He was removed as coach because of things he could control and made no effort to correct but at his age to act this way is rediculous to say the least, as said above he needs to get over it and grow up and I'll tell you this I would tell him the same to his face not that he would care nor would it matter to him since according to him all I am is a fan and don't know what I'm talking about. Well I have news for you Majors I know more than you think and I call it like I see it and if it hurts ain't my problem. What happened he brought upon himself. Personally I think his return to UT was about a decade late and he should have replaced Dickey instead of Battle just like I think he should have been gone 2 years before he was fired.

Thats good. I wish I could hang out with VOL greats like that. I know Larry Seivers through a friend. But thats as close as it gets.

But it still doesnt chance my opinion of your friend.

If he's your friend, that's great. Don't take this stuff personally. When he takes a shot like that at UT, don't expect all of us to defend him, however.

I don't care if he's a personal friend of the Pope. If "hog-jowl" doesn't fall under the category of slander, nothing does. Johnny Majors IS a drunk has-been and that's old news to ANYBODY who knows anything about UT football. So if you don't like my comments, don't read 'em.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

The Vols went from being an SEC power to a national power under CPF in almost no time. I hate the way it ended, but it had to for us to get to the next level. He was a great running back, and a great coach. But to paraphrase John Ward, It was time.

I'm seriously wondering if donsarge is Majors. The resemblance is uncanny down to the JD withdrawal symptoms.

Fulmer shamelessly screwed Majors way-back-when.

Sure, Fulmer has earned our/Vol allegiance since, but that doesn't change the facts that Fulmer acted like a back-biting worm back then or that Majors is pretty old now.

So- let's forgive Fulmer since he richly deserves it, and let's forgive the aged Johnny for not-forgiving those massive pricks, Dickey & Fulmer for the way they abused him in-the-day...

Personally, especially given how convenient his name is, I think we should all blame it on "Dickey".

You know, I've heard a few people say things about Fulmer regarding Majors dismissal.... but I've never heard any facts to back it up. I've also heard some things that Majors did that season that were inexcusable... but haven't seen proof of that either. Unless someone is privy to the inside workings of the athletic department and the issues between Doug Dickey, Johnny Majors, and Phil Fulmer... I don't know if any of us can truly say which party or parties was at fault in the situation. Regardless, its ancient history... and once a Vol, always a Vol. And if your a Vol, you gotta pull for them thru thick or thin. I really hope the press was taking Majors' comments out of context... because I don't think he would say things publicly in such a negative way? Maybe he let a few words slip just like the ball did in his fumble against Baylor?

All I know is in 92, Fulmer gets us out to a 3-0 start, Majors loses 4 of 8 after his surgery, Fulmer coaches us to a HOF bowl win. UT pulls the contract they had given to Majors (who was wanting more than what UT was offering) and name Fulmer as coach.

Majors should have signed that contract when he had a chance. AT least, he would have had some buyout clause money to show for it.

Here is an interesting stat. The Vols had not had a losing season since 1964 when Johnny Majors arrived with much fanfair in Knoxville. However, Majors' first team in 1977 finished 4-7. His second team was 5-5-1. His 1979 squad finished 7-5, but in 1980 reverted back to losing, 5-6. Majors then started a pattern during the 1980's of doing well during the odd years and poor during even years....

1980 5-6
1982 6-5-1
1984 7-4-1
1986 7-5
1988 5-6

1981 8-4
1983 9-3
1985 9-1-2
1987 10-2-1
1989 11-1

It was time for Majors to go, and he needs to get over it. I have respect for Johnny, but he needs to LET IT GO!
