Maddest you have been after a game?

There is angry and then there is heartbroken .........

Angriest post-game: 2001 LSU loss in SEC championship game. Angry at the team for overlooking LSU and coming in over-confident. Angry at the bumbling coaches who allowed a backup QB to run wild in the 2nd half and beat us. Angry at missing a 2nd national title game in 3 years.

Most heartbroken post-game: 1972 home loss to Alabama 17-10 after leading the entire game until the last 2 minutes when Bama finally drove for a late touchdown to tie the game, followed by a Condredge Holloway fumble that led to their winning touchdown. I was at that game.
As was I, with my dad. He was royally pissed about Holloway 'carrying the ball like a loaf of bread' and fumbling.

Me too. I was convinced - lock solid convinced - that Tennessee was going to win that stupid game. You see folks on here all the time who say "I know we're gonna win this game this week," and boy do they sound delusional sometimes ... well ... for that week, that was me. I just "had a feeling." Their guy, Striker or whoever, had talked **** about Tennessee all week, and I was convinced the crowd would be out to give them holy hell, and that would power the Vols all game and Oklahoma would not be prepared.

Then I got there, and the crowd wasn't just electric, it was HUNGRY. RAVENOUS. STARVING. They WANTED that win. We all wanted that win.

And then he kicked that stupid damn field goal. The crowd to their credit never quit. Not until the very end. Should have gone for it. Should have gotten that W. It would have been historic.

Now I'm mad again all over at it. I think that's a part of why I loved early Josh Heupel, because Heupel went for it on fourth down all the time in 2021 and 2022. I loved it. Win or lose, just go down swinging. Don't quit. Leave it all on the field. Those first two years were cathartic. Nothing to lose. All out attack. Loved it.

Absolutely agree about it being the best home crowd ever. It really was. If the crowd was like that every week, Tennessee would win every home game.
Besides Bill Battle’s horrible decision to run a fake punt on 4th inside his own 35 yd line late against Ga, the worst coaching play call in my 60 yrs following the Vols was kicking a FG vs OU on the 1/2 yd line on the first series of the game in 2015.

I was mad, too. But we took out their starting QB Rohan Davey, who was a pro style QB. Their backup Matt Mauck was a running option QB. They used the QB draw on us and other option plays we didn't prepare for and couldn't stop. That was the game that put LSU on the map and exposed Fulmer as a Head Coach.

Agree, especially on Fulmer. Watching that same exact QB draw play after play after play was torture, and no adjustment was made even though it was clear this kid couldn't throw. Not preparing for something is one thing, but just allowing it to bleed you out without adjustment is quite another.

It’s a tie for me. Mountain Cody for Bama winning the game for them by an outmanned group of Vols who outplayed them. OR the Vandy official who ruled a catch by the gators for the win when it was obvious to everybody touching the ball is not possession or a catch. I’m still raw to this day over those two.

I’ve been a Vol fan my whole life but didn’t really care about fb until I moved back to Tennessee in 2013, so my answers are all recent.

‘90 loss to Bama in Neyland. We just crushed UF and were a huge favorite over the tide.
Biggest choke job of Majors career.

2001 LSU, 2000 UF(Gaffney drop at goal line), head scratcher and Spurrier even admitted that we we deserved that win. The ties and losses in 1990(Most talented UT team ever). That year was the beginning of the end for Johnny.
I was there looking down at that "non catch" and that end of Neyland went Irate.....

That was one for me. But honestly, the game next year in 1996 at home where Manning threw three picks and Florida built up a 35-0 lead in the first half. We dominated the second half by scoring 29 unanswered points. But Florida had the ball in the last possession and couldn't stop them and ran out the clock. That game pissed me off even more. If we beat Florida, we'd gone to the SEC Championship game and possibly be in the Sugar Bowl against Florida State for the National Championship.
Manning threw 4 picks in the first half vs Florida that year.

Forgot what year but when Dooley beat LSU & had 13 men on the field giving LSU 1 more shot to end zone. I went from screaming we beat them to WTF is that yellow flag on the field. I went from victory to defeat in sec’s

2010 LSU. That was such a big time and inspiring win and just completely encapsulated the Dooley area. Couldn’t even get the basics right and stay out of our own way.

Sad thing was Dooley could have had 8 men on the field & won the game. LSU was about to run out of time, snapped the ball over the QBs head & game was over. But Dooley is a born jinx. Everything not with Saban he’s touched has basically turned to 💩

2001 SEC Championship Game choke against a back-up QB is #1.

Quite a few others in the mix during the Dooley-Butch-Cornbread years.

But I’ve had far more great memories than bad from my time as a Tennessee fan.
