Crowder will start if not by the end of this season, he will definately be a starter in 2013....word is he is a master craftsman on the line....big on technique and fundamentals.....just a little bit important when it comes to blocking...

What is his weight and strength? SEC tends to line up monsters on the nose.

listed at 6'2'' 283.

Whether it is this year, mid year, or next year, this kid will give us a great 3-4 years on the OL.

Little refresher of tidbits here. Smart player whose 2 older brothers played Ivy league football. Older brother is in UT's law school. Quick footed, technician who always brings it until the whistle blows. Was like the
4-th strongest O-lineman last year and according to his dad is right at 290lbs right now. Did a job on Montorri Hughes in his 1st O&W game.

The job is up for grabs, and I wouldn't be totally shocked if he won it.

Even if he is a little undersized, he may be an improvement over what we have on the o-line right now, star-rankings aside. The last time we had a running game that was worth a crap, the Sullins brothers were on the line. Just sayin.

You need quickness and technique over mass at center. He can definitely get it done at 290. It's a big plus when the intelligence is there to read defenses and alignments. You only have to look at VFL and All Pro Scott Wells to know the answer to this one.

where is he now on the depth chart?

Since Bullard went into time-out, he and Stone apparently will fight it out. The coaches like Bullard at OG anyway. They like Stone's versatility to play any position. Crowder is who they have been grooming for the job at some point.

He's the prototypical size for a center. They're usually right around 300 lbs or a little less iirc. And he is supposedly also one of the strongest lineman on the team.

Jeff Saturday is 6'2" 295. He worked out OK keeping Peyton vertical for about 12 years.

Good post.

The time from first movement until getting hit by a 320lb+ nose is very short-(quickness). Typically, the center reads the DL and calls any blocking audibles if needed-(intelligence). Size is a great assest in an OL, but technique is a grossly underrated/unappreciated OL commodity outside the coaching community. Give me a 280-290lb guy with impeccable technique, a nasty attitude, a motor that won't quit, and quick feet over a 320+lb guy the can bench press a Buick. A guy with the whole package will be cashing large paychecks on Sundays and collecting Pro Bowl bonuses for a long time.

I have no idea whether Crowder possesses any of these qualities at an SEC level, but your analysis of what makes a good OL is spot on. I do know that a couple of his high school coaches I used to work with had glowing praise for him. They emphasized his motor. Said he would only quit when the whistle blew. That's a good thing.
