There is a risk of taking young guys. You pay them to not be very productive, then they transfer again right as they mature.

LSU DL Walter Mathis Jr.: Mathis made 12 appearances for LSU as a freshman this past season. He recorded nine tackles and also recorded a pass deflection in 2025. Mathis played high school football at Calvary Baptist Day (GA), where he was a three-star prospect. Mathis was the No. 496 overall player and No. 50 defensive lineman in the 2025 recruiting cycle, according to the Rivals Industry Rankings. He has three years of eligibility remaining.
