I know that this a very controversial question, but I want to ask it anyways....
What would you rather have....
A coach that bleed orange, loves UT, can coach, and hires great assistants.
OR...
A coach that lacks in substance, runs his mouth, looks for better opportunities, and will steal recruits and coaches on a whim.
I know we have discussed this more than once, but what do you REALLY want?? Obviously, we all want to win and be successful, but at what price?? It seems as if in today's coaching world, that you have a fine line between a team's pride and success on the field. Are coaches these days, satisfied with the thrill of entertaining a fanbase, winning ballgames for a long time, bleeding and sweating with the team, and being labeled as one of the best in team history?? Or, is it about money and power?? There seems to be no loyality, for the most part, between coaching and success, IMO. You either have success and move on to bigger and better things, or you don't and still move around. It's almost become too business like for college football, IMO. Traditions being ignored, recruits being treated as commodities, and coaches just selling themselves to recruits and not who they work for.
It's just become a really sad day in college football, when a school that has been around as long as ours, has a excellent traditions and recognition, is in the premier football conference and division in the nation, and we can't keep a coach. I'm not sitting here screaming, "We are UT!!", but we aren't chopped liver either. Even fan pride is at an all-time low, IMO. I think that as a fanbase, we need to step it up and quit arguing and dividing ourselves, just to try and prove the other side wrong. Please, don't take this as a "Rah-Rah" speech either. It's not intended that way, even though it has that certain tone.
I, just want to see a fanbase who is excited and wants to support UT Football, and not just the man who is the head coach. If you just support the team when you agree with who the coach is, then IMO, your no better than a recruit who commits to a coach and not who and what we are as a university. I just see it as, your either in it all the way, or not at all.
This is all just my opinion, course.
