Look, I hate Lou Holtz as much as the next guy, but I came across a quote of his in a leadership book by John Maxwell and I thought of Phil Fulmer.

"You've got to have great athletes to win, I don't care who the coach is. You can't win without good athletes, but you can lose with them. That is where coaching makes a difference."

Quite possibly the only intelligent thing I've evr heard attributed to Sweet Lou.

had to have been misquoted because I didn't see any evidence of mental retardation, a lisp, or spittle on the page.

all due respect Rex, but how is this exactly enlightening or "new thinking"?

would anyone really disagree with this?

I didnt mean to make it sound as though Sweet Lou had split the atom, but it just reminded me how important coaching is to winning. I sometimes think that Phil believes that simply having the horses is enough.

:eek:lol::good!:

i think phil's problem is that when he was on top, he likely didn't realize how good he had it. we always had top tier talent.

seeing what we have had to work with the last couple of years in some respects is where you now see the comments like "we don't have any John Henderson's or Albert Haynesworths right now" etc....

let me rephrase, i think he realized how good we had it, i think it probably just became the norm though that whoever we brought in here, would just fill those shoes, like we always had done....and that hasn't happened lately, across the board.
