is better than beating a 1-AA team (sorry Mich.) by 50 if you ask me. We needed our young guys to grow up fast and how better to do that than play a top 15 team in their stadium. You doom and gloom guys can all go cry your eyes out,I am not giving up on this team. All of you posting "the sky is falling" crap don't even think of posting "I knew it all along" stuff when this team turns out to be special. That is all.

I hope you're right. I'm not a "doom and gloom" sort of guy, but I can't think of anything positive to say about being 0-1 and getting pushed around like we were last night. So, I'll respectfully disagree.

1-0 may be better than 0-1, but we're still 0-0 in the conference which is all that really matters. If we get our job done in the SEC, then the national stuff will sort itself out. The national championship is a fickle thing that isn't really in the team's hands (just look at Auburn a few years ago). Our goal is to win the SEC and that goal doesn't suffer by playing a top 25 team to start out the season win or lose.

1-0 is better than 0-1.

Not if it gives you a false evaluation of your team. we have played cup cakes and beat them solidly in the past only to have Florida rip our hearts out. Maybe this will be different is all Im saying.

The only difference is after UF, we could be 1-2 instead of 2-1.

Were your fingers really able to type that?

Sure. I wasn't implying that we were in the running. What I was saying was that out of conference games really only impact your national championship hunt (which we're not in) and because the hunt for the championship is so fickle...you can't really have that as a real goal...for any team. Win your conference. That is what you have to set out to do. I wasn't that upset with the outcome of last night's game...but I am upset with certain aspects of our game that could hurt us in the SEC.

I really don't see why that matters. We would be 1-0 in the SEC with a win against Florida, on our way to the SEC-E title. Now, if you want to complain that last night showed you a team incapable of winning the east..then that is a discussion worth having. I would rather play a tough out of conference game so that you can get a good evaluation of your team and work on those things before conference play. We probably won't ... and we'll probably lose several SEC games..and then I'll be p*ssed...but that's another story.

Yeah, it stinks that we lost, but I'm much more concerned with how we did so. I know that Cal has some playmakers, but we should not have been beaten physically, and we were.

Four serious concerns:

No QB pressure
Inability to stop a mediocre running attack
No downfield threat
Special teams

check
check (but we'll have to see how mediocre that attack is ... their o-line may be pretty darn good)
check
and check

I would rather not start the season out giving up 45 points.

So true. We have to prepare for a tough So. Miss team that smells blood in the water, then play Florida. It doesn't get any easier. As positive as I can be about the offence it just doesn't matter if you can't tackle.

It's how we lost that bothers me. It's an indication of what is to come against Uf.

its always better to win than to lose, period. No matter who the opponent is

atleast we played a good non conference team rather than losin to a SEC team...... atleast we are still in one of the race...now we know wat we have or rather wat we dont have to get a win

We are the only SEC team to lose yesterday, but the only one to play someone ranked in the Top 30. I consider yesterday a loss on paper, but we will be a better team because of it next week IMO.

So you'd rather lose to Cal and NOT get all of those inexperienced players in the game than beat a cupcake by 50 and actually get to see what Kenny O'Neal, Brent Vinson, Gerald Jones, Lennon Creer, and everyone else is capable of?

You're fooling yourself if you think Fulmer and Co. were going to play any of the young guys other than Berry with any regularity last night, especially when we got down.

Nothing got accomplished with our receiving corps and game experience with any of our incoming guys other than Berry. The only thing that appeared evident from the WR's is that Lucas Taylor appears to at least be reliable, if nothing else.

Last night might have better prepared us for what Florida is going to bring to the table, but the extent of how bad it was doesn't provide a lot of confidence that you can fix something that broken, that fast.

That is one thing to take away from this. If we had played a DII school or something like that, we wouldn't have seen all of the glaring holes in the D and special teams that need to be fixed. Now hopefully something can be done about it before we play FL.
