College GameDay to open season in Blacksburg

Apparently they are going to virginia tech. Not sure what this has to do with football, I guess they think a couple of stories about "gameday starting the healing" or some other bs will get better ratings.
They said if Tenn. was playing a recognized team or a team with talent we would have had gameday there.:whistling: I guess we can thank CAL for that.

who said this?

This is no more than a PR politically correct move.

I assume this is some attempt to pay tribute to the VT shootings. I hate this kind of garbage. Yes, this will help people ESPN, the mere fact that you descend upon the campus will make everything well again.

It doesn't surprise me either except for the fact that a scout reporter already said gameday in Berkeley was a done deal. whoops.

Are they planning to donate all of the money they get from commercial advertisers to a victim's fund of some sort? If not, I see this as nothing more than an attempt by ESPN/ABC to cash in on the tragedy of the shootings.

and for the worst news in this article "and Desmond Howard, who is entering his third year." Looks like my tivo will once again be used for at least 10 minutes of every gameday show.

A quick calculation shows that UT is 6-10 when Gameday has been there (5-8 during the regular season). No big loss.

(Caveat: this is based on information from the Wikipedia page on Gameday.)

Well I will not be watching the first Gameday. Exploitation at it's finest.

Thats gotta be it. Why else would gameday, or anyone for that matter, want to watch ECU/VT

yep if there was any question on the movies its answered right here in the article
"Virginia Tech is a special place and the community is one of the most respectful and passionate we have visited," said Norby Williamson, ESPN's executive vice president of production. "Our coverage will be considerate of the emotional day facing the students, faculty, and people of Blacksburg and the country."
Virginia Tech football head coach Frank Beamer added, "Every time College GameDay has come to Blacksburg it has been exciting. This time, I think there will be a greater togetherness than ever before."

The UT-Cal game is the ony matchup with two top 25 teams. Obviously they are trying to pay tribute, but reality needs to set in. We are the prime time game, and should get Gameday regardless of what happened at VT.
