with Matt Ruhle saying it makes no sense to let other programs see and evaluate your players due to transfer rules, etc. Obviously, TN‘s already scheduled the O & W game for this year, but do you see the Vols and other programs soon taking the Huskers approach to limit potential transfers post spring practice?

Wow...they have had the highest attendance for a spring game by far.

Spring game really are not what they once were. It felt like a light game and evolvement into a fan-service practice.
Agree. It’s a fan experience game anymore. Most players have plenty of tape and it’s really just a glorified practices. My first thought was “paranoia”, but there are no rules anymore so I guess I could see scouring spring games for a position of need.

If other teams are winning games against you based off of analyzing your spring game, then you were screwed to begin with and not winning anything of note

That is a shame. Many people, especially families, can not afford or can rarely afford to go to Division 1-A games these days. This is a chance to develop potential future fans, students, and players that may be in a position to join one of those categories ten or fifteen years down the road. Even if you make it a glorified practice/meet the players/hear the band/visit the stadium/meet the mascot/Free schedule posters and magnets/campus tours kind of day, have something.

This right here. Gotta remember you are always trying to make new fans for future generations. Having something like a scrimmage with potentially meeting players for signings would do wonders.

If Nebraska is worried about players being poached, just play backups. Don't deny your loyal fans (and Nebraska fans are as loyal as any) the experience. As an AD, you should want your fans thinking Football positively all year long. AD White gets that.
I always thought spring games were silly and unrealistic. It adds chances of getting critical players hurt for a meaningless game.
I wouldn't be sad to see every FBS team follow Nebraska's example.

I would find it hard for anyone to gain anything on any team watching a spring practice game. That is so overblown.

Doesn’t mean you can’t glean something on an individual player you’re evaluating, especially a lesser program that can promise playing time Nebraska can’t. It might be a player NU values as a special teams guy that a Louisiana Tech (as an example) sees as a fit to play LB.

Spring games, as we know them, are gone, sooner than later.

Those are probably the players they worry about being poached. The starters will have plenty of film for coaches to scout.

I'd rather the players have a day they can build towards and celebrate. Plus, it can be a good recruiting tool.

Rhule is just dumb and a primadonna. He thinks too highly of himself. And this type of move is in line with his conservative type thinking. Top scared to play offense with a lead and too scared to play a spring game. It's the very mindset that got him fired at Carolina.
