I'm getting ahead of myself here but I'm looking to that Georgia game and thinking we have a better chance of winning that game than we did against Alabama last year. If you look at their schedule, Kentucky and Florida are their only Quasi-talented teams they have played. Florida was a neutral field and Kentucky was a home game. Sure, they curb stomped FL. They also soundly beat KY. But they have had their struggles this year. This isn't the GA of the 2 previous years. Are they a top shelf team this year? Absolutely. Are they the best team in the SEC? Probably. But you don't have to be the best team to win. You just have to be the best team THAT DAY. penalties both against us and not called in our favor have killed a lot of our drives this season. Bad refs are real. Letting teams sub when we didn't sub? WTF is that? saw it again in another game this weekend. If we can clean up the penalties, get anything close to fair calls from the refs, take advantage of the home field, and have solid play on both sides of the ball, we can pull this off. It's all about our secondary. Brock Bowers will determine if we win or not. If he carves us up, it could get ugly. We get GA in 3rd and 10 or more and still give up the 1st down like we've done all season against inferior talent and Neyland gets about half empty by the middle of the 3rd quarter. We've played better defenses and put up enough points to win. We jumped on Alabama in their house. We forgot the game was 4 quarters. They have good coaches who can adjust and then shut us down. If we can take the fight to GA for 4 quarters, we win a nail biter. We have the horses for it.

Edit: I also want to point out that they have played only 1 team with a top 50 defense all season so far and that was FL ranked 34. They have only played 1 top 50 offense all season to date and that was UAB.

I saw a national pundit sum it up best over the weekend, UGA has two modes: 1) Bored and 2) Death Star. If you get bored UGA to start the game you have a chance, if you get the death star version, you don't. They tend to go death star when they feel threatened. Accordingly, I think our best chance to beat them will be if they beat Missouri and Ole Miss and thus put the East away and that's not on the line when they come to Knoxville, then we might get bored UGA to start the game and the magic of Neyland holds off their comeback attempt. That scenario wouldn't win us the East, but I'd dang sure love to be the ones who break their winning streak.

Much rather play them for a chance at the East and take there spot in the sec championship, and knock them out of any playoff hopes.

We have a solid team that can be dangerous to anyone. What I’m anxious about is whether we stay sharp for 4 quarters. We could gave buried Alabama, but we have the refs an excuse and then we became predictable on offense.

We have a chance to beat Georgia and most of it will be due to playing them in Neyland, but let's be honest here, they are the better team here and we would need to play the entire game the way we played in the first half of the Bama game and we have not done that all season and that is just to have a chance.

There is always a first time, but I'm not holding my breath that it will be against Georgia.

I don't buy Georgia being unbeatable this year even if they're focused on the game. During the games this year where they've dominated the opponent, it never really kicks in until the 2nd quarter in games where they're focused and 3rd quarter in games where they don't seem to care. They just simply start slow for whatever reason. So if Tennessee can start fast and hit them before they’re ready, we can be competitive in that game. That's my hope anyway.

The problem I see is that they are still way better than we are on the lines of scrimmage, in particular they have the best offensive line we'll play all year, and they've got a pretty good passing game, with or without Bowers. I'm not confident we'll be able to run it consistently on offense or that Milton can beat them enough over the top. On defense, I'm worried we won't be able to get home with the pass rush and Beck will pick our secondary apart. The main advantage is Neyland. We need a huge game from Pierce, the o-line and the running backs, and then hope they come out sluggish and that we get some breaks. Like Rocco said about assassinating Hyman Roth in the Godfather 2, "difficult, but not impossible".

Agree on the line of scrimmage for the most part, although I do think our defensive line is better this year than last. I just want to see us be competitive with them for 4 quarters finally.

Can we start with looking ahead to Missouri?

I love your optimism, but we’re not beating UGA. For starters, the refs will never allow that to happen. They want to ensure an SEC team makes the playoffs. In the unlikely event, we get a fair game called, we’re just too inconsistent on both sides of the ball to pull it off. I think UGA has had some struggle games for a myriad of reasons, but mainly because they have a tendency to play down to their competition and treat scrub teams as glorified scrimmages. Don’t kid yourself, we will get their best.

While your logic makes sense, I believe in the VOLS & wish for a butt-whipping of the hairy Dawgs by beloved SMOKEY & the big ORANGE hounds.

If Tennessee plays on all cylinders for four quarters....It's a 7:30 kickoff, drunk fans in the stands raising hell, we have a chance. I don't think people realize how big a part the fans play in a game.

Unless there is absolute chaos in the next few weeks, UT/GA will be the 3:30 CBS game.

Actually, even with absolute chaos-that might still be the 3:30 CBS game. Game has been scheduled on the networks calendar since last year.
