Looking more and more like DeBord will be the new OC

Quit trying to categorize people just because they disagree with you.

I don't try to categorize anyone my friend.

It's a well known and proven psychological fact that some people live by a negative minded attitude and other people live by a positive minded attitude also known as PMA.

I read every post in every thread I open because I like to see all the ideas, thoughts, opinions and guesses from everyone.

All people have the right of free speech and I support that right even if I don't agree with what they say.

People freely choose to put themselves in any category, I have nothing to do with what they think or say.

#RiseToTheTop...VFL...GBO!!!

I'm not trying to be negative and I definitely don't live my life in a negative fashion. I'm just tired of everyone saying trust Butch. I'm sorry but I'd trust him more if he hadn't brought his old buddy from cincy and CMU with him only to watch that flop unless we were facing a weak D. Then when he has a chance to make changes he goes back to the old buddies and former CMU staff to hire someone and hope this time the guy can operate with success in the SEC.

It would be ALOT easier to trust him if he would go out and hire someone with experience running the read option spread and/or has SEC experience and not use UT as a platform to promote all his old buddies. Thats something he should have done at CMU or Cincy.

It's like everything else in life. If I can't control it, or change it, I don't spend my time worrying about it.

So you want proven coordinator with presumably successful SEC experience who has a strong background in the read-option/spread-option scheme, whose offenses have consistently beaten good defenses and has not worked with Butch Jones (to avoid any hint of nepotism) and is available immediately? Is that basically who you think should be hired?

How did Butch miss the mark so badly on who he has been looking for to replace Bajakian. It's so simple...just find a successful SEC offensive coordinator, whose scheme can beat good defenses, and who is available immediately and hire him already! Gus Malzahn is probably okay dropping down to OC right? Jimbo Fisher probably doesn't like being a HC, he would probably relish having fewer responsibilities! Maybe Chip Kelly will drop down from the NFL...oh wait I don't see successful SEC experience on his resume.

This! According to VN there are always better options available if we just spend more money. Finding an experienced OC with a NC ring who knows the HC, knows the offense and is available isn't good enough.

if you are going to be a bear...be a grizzly!
Good enough doesn't cut it!
Shoot for the best!
No doubt Debord has a good history, some of us feel there are better options currently!
I am allowed to want the best for my team, and not settle for a safe comfort "has been" hire.
Beauty is... its all pontification! Whoever gets the job still has to prove their merit on the field

Well said!

Here's what strikes me as concerning when I read this from 247.

Butch Jones’ search to replace Mike Bajakian has been focused on a top tier of candidates, and we’ve been able to eliminate many of them. That means there aren’t many more names on the list.

Makes me wonder if we struck out or just took the first guy (Debord).

Why are you "concerned" exactly?

How about finding someone whose previous job's most difficult task wasn't finding the best water polo coach?

Jones is putting a lot of his capital on the line with this hire. I don't like the incestuous nature of his hiring of assistants. Good coaches who are secure in themselves look to expand their thinking and perspective, bringing in new ideas to challenge and make their program better. If you decide just to hire your buddies, to me, that's a worrisome sign. It displays either an enormous ego or insecurity, neither of which are good.

Yes, Butch Jones is noted for his massive ego and chronic insecurity. So insecure, in fact, that he repeatedly uses the word "infallible" to describe the system that has done nothing but win games at every place he's been.

All he wants to do is hire a guy who will run the damn offense the way he wants him to.

Why is this all of a sudden too much to ask? Saban has been doing it for years.

You're being mean.

That is all points to Debord lol. Article even talks about the others that have been disqualified.

If it was me doing the hiring, I would have full court pressed Cumbie, Sanford, Helton et al...in that order. After I finish that hire, I don't have to interact and teach my ways of coaching and don't have to learn what the new hire is best at teaching...I don't have to have faith in him and most importantly, my job's not at stake!
