Looking more and more like DeBord will be the new OC

You ever lose your job and creditability because the wrong coach was hired?

I have done that and more with developers and manager hires that haven't panned out. Coaching isn't the only profession where you have to live with the hires you make.

But it's the one we are talking about now. Who has the most invested in this hire, you or CBJ.

No just the outcome that I fear, brother. If he is hired, I will support him. If he succeeds I will be elated to be wrong, but I just feel that Jones is hiring a warm body to do his bidding so he can assume complete control of his offense. Could easily be wrong.

Butch is hiring a guy who wasn't good enough to get a spot on Fulmer's staff.

I think Debord is a disaster of a hire, but we don't know the circumstances of Fulmer's choice. Him going with Clawson doesn't mean that Debord wasn't necessarily good enough.

I read some of this crazy(sky is falling)stuff and laugh. This is an entertaining thread.

There are people who actually believe that Jones would hire an unqualified doofus with zero credentials, because he feels sorrow for him, or owes him a favor. I can't believe that some people think that Butch is as dumb as they seem to be.

Incidentally, several of the previous candidates have publicized their intentions -- did I miss Debord's announcement to remain MI's OS Administrator?

"Multiple sources continue to tell GoVols247 that longtime college and NFL assistant coach and current Michigan administrator Mike DeBord is the frontrunner for the job, but that nothing has been finalized to this point. DeBord spent most of last weekend in Knoxville speaking with Jones and others in and around the Tennessee program." Knoxville News Sentinel

I'm not sure what you are getting at.

Sure many wont be excited when they dont hear a Cumbie or Norvell announced. But I'd be willing to bet if Hurd and Dobbs were to be told that we're gonna bring in a guy that has won an NC as OC, has NFL experience, can bring some much needed physicality to the OL, and will keep this same system that you all are on the verge of blowing up in instead of having to learn a new one, they'd be pretty excited.

Both of those posts agree that it's Debord.
They don't agree that Debord will destroy the program.

Let me ask you a serious question. Do you truly feel that UT has done everything they can to put the best coaching staff together to compete for conference or national championships?? Now I completely support CBJ and we got extremely lucky, but when have we mirrored ourselves off of what other contendors are doing? Meanwhile, Bama, Florida, Auburn, and Michigan are doing whatever they can to get the "edge" in coaching. I'll come back and each crow if DeBord pans out, but history would prove otherwise.

As I look around the SEC it seems as though the other teams have quite a bit of staff turn over. Florida in particular has gone for big name OCs and we see what happened there. It seems this idea of the best fit is pretty logical.

Well enough? No room for improvement?

Or, you just want to be mad because you probably aren't going to get the splashy name with sizzle like you want?

Every program has room for improvement . Dumb argument. We need help with the passing game. We need an OC who has at the very least called some plays within the past 5 years at the college level.

Was responding to what seems like a calling out fans for their actually believing that Jones would hire Debord (as absurd thinking), seeing as how he's reported as a "frontrunner" AND to my knowledge he's not refused the job/hasn't stated he's staying on as Michigan's Olympic Sports Administrator (where others like Sandord have announced their intentions not to come to TN). If he's any front or end runner and hasn't removed himself from the list, seems plausible he's still on it, but you may know /be thinking otherwise better than I.

Of course they do. That's why I countered the guy when he implied the running game this year went so well. My comment was that the Vols need to improve the run game and DeBord can help with that.

Kurt Roper was a big name OC hire? Why in the world was he at Duke then?

Just for healthy debate: If you had to choose between Debord or Bajakian and this was 2012...who would you prefer?

He may very well hire Debord. I have no idea. I just meant the I don't believe that Debord is an unqualified doofus, or that it would be a pity hire.

I can't believe that I have read so many posts saying "it's too late to lose our recruits"
as the reason they didn't leave. The #2 class filled with 4 and 5 *s.
Is it really so hard for people to admit they were wrong about the impact, that they try to cover it with such a ridiculous statement.

I promise you that if top recruits wanted a new gig, spots would open for them.

Worst decisions in football this year:

(1) Hire DeBord as OC at UT
(2) Pass on 2nd & Goal rather than give it to Lynch to win the Super Bowl

(in that order)
