Not sure how true it is, but I heard the Delmonico had a meeting set up with Price and his family, but Delmonico never showed up and that's when Price decided to go to Vandy.

Again, that's just a rumor I heard, so take it FWIW.

I knew this kid when he played in high school. His parents were never going to allow him to come to Knoxville. He might have been looking at UT but both he and his family wanted Vandy much more.

Edit: I shouldn't have said his parents were never going to allow him to go to UT. I should have said they wanted him to go to Vandy or any number of other schools before UT.

My information comes from two family members who played with him on his high school team at Blackman. One of them went to Memphis the other Lambuth. Just so you know I'm not blowing smoke.

UT evaluated the situation, realized he was not very high on us and decided to put resources elsewhere. If I had to give it odds 60% Vandy - 30% elsewhere - 10% UT.

At a tournament at Riverdale High I got to talk to about 5 or 6 MLB scouts. The speed guns were everywhere, most all of them thought he was very far ahead of the curve, especially considering he was just in high school. One told me if you took the left hand thrower out of the mix he would be just a serviceable pitcher, the fact he was a lefty with his speed and control made him much more rare and valuable.

I was able to talk with Tommy Lasorda for about 10 minutes as the game was closing out, not every day a man gets to do that!

thats a story you can tell your great grandkids, that you talked to Tomma La for 10 minutes. My best story is that i met Todd Helton at a Vols game in 03.
