This. Ive got a 60" 3D DLP. I love it. I was a little concerned about buying a Mitsubishi tv, but i couldnt be happier.

Thats what I purchased about a month and a half ago. I was sketchy as well but it was a good buy and I am very happy with it.

Samsung and Sony are my preferred models for LCD, always have been. Unless you're buying at Costco or some other warehouse brand, Samsung and Sony panels are produced the same and will be of the same build quality. Then it just comes down to picture quality.

BTW, contrast ration numbers are completely worthless jerk-off numbers. Don't pay attention to them. And if at all possible, try and see the TV off a brightly lit sales floor.

That's all if you've gotta have LCD. Plasma is still a great, cheaper option and has been and will continue to be superior in every performance category, just make sure you're okay with having a glass screen.

Other than that, make sure you get a good surge protector, and when you're buying audio, get a receiver that at least has a decent number of HDMI in and the latest audio processing and codecs. This part can really make or break a home theater.

i started with the lg 42ld520..... was not impressed with the picture (or anything about it for that matter) so i took it back. after getting my new samsung, i am glad i made that choice.

exchanged the LG for a samsung 46c670 (guy offered me a deal for 899.99... it was originally 1099.99). BEAUTIFUL TV. everything about it was simply amazing..... except the whole left side was washed out, so it was defective. my local store did not have any more in stock, so i had to drive 2 hours round trip to a different store to get a new one. For this extra driving, they gave us a free $50 gift card.

Upon returning home with my new 3rd new tv (also a samsung 46c670) i set it up to find yet another problem. the touch buttons were not labeled. i knew they were their from the previous tv, i just had no idea where because they werent labeled. Also, i found the labels on the opposite side of the tv, upsidedown. After wasting so much time on this, i wasn't settling anything less than perfect.

So, they offered me a deal on a different TV as a replacement since they did not have anymore 46c670 tvs in this area. they offered me the un46c6300 for just $999.99. So 100 bucks more for an LED, and we used the free $50 gift card they gave us. so i now have a really nice 46 inch samsung LED tv, and i believe my tv saga is finished =)

LED has a much higher contrast ratio, so the picture is usually better and more crisp
LED is much brighter
LED is much more energy efficient
LED lights last a lot longer because they do not heat up
LED TVs are much thinner
LED TVs typically cost a lot more, and LCDs are perfectly good TVs.

If you dont have to move the tv a lot, and can keep it in a room with controllable light, plasma is the way to go. cost less, and are just all around better tvs than LED and LCD

LCD TV's are about to be discontinued because of LED TV's. LED has better looking picture, but the refresh rate is virtually unnoticeable. 8 times a second to 4 times a second is hard for the human eye to notice, IMO.

That is actually a minor?

yes actually. after taking the 101 class in it last semester, i have learned just how much positive and negative rhetoric affects the world. just ask Hitler.

and to the OP, refresh rates are unnoticeable mostly because bluray is the only thing that uses 120hz. xbox 360, ps3, and hdtv all still use 60hz and mostly 1080i. the reason you buy a 1080p, 120hz tv is for when cable, video games, etc upgrade in the near future.

any opinions on a 37 LED vs a 42 LCD? They're about the same price

I like my LED better than either a LCD (had one in college) or a plasma (had one the first year I was out of college).

It's just a lot more crisp and clean to me.

That being said, the only reason I got the tv I have now is best buy having them on sale for 50% off.

I got a 46" Sony LCD about a year ago and a 40" Sony LED about a month ago for about the same price. The LED picture is noticeably superior to the LCD. Also, because it was newer, the LED also has net connectivity for Netflix, Pandora, etc. The LED is also about half the depth of the LCD.

Assuming you mean the television set itself right? (I'm sorry, I'm still really new to buying televisions)

Do all LED sets come with those things?

Correct. Instead of using an Xbox, DVD player, PS3 etc, you're able to access various sites directly through the TV. What you can access will vary by brand.

Different sets will have different features. Just be aware of them when deciding on your set.

What about OLED? Any thoughts? I'm not in the market, but i'm curious if anyone has one/seen one and what, if any, difference there is. I don't think its a big enough difference besides thickness maybe.

both are vizio. there's also a 42 LED from vizio that might be in the conversation as well

well if they are both vizio, i guess it would depend on room size really. sometimes the room isnt very big, and going up a size just isnt necessary.i dont know your prices exactly, but i would suggest looking into some other brands as well. after looking at virtually every type of tv on the market, samsungs seem to be the best out right now. The bravias this year just dont look that great IMHO, and the LGs arent really that great until you get towards the top of the line products. im just not a huge fan of vizio, but it really just comes down to your preferences. id suggest going to alatest.com, and looking at the ratings for the tvs you are considering too. their ratings usually seem pretty good. my final tip would be to hold off on buying one if at all possible. new models come out soon (march i believe but dont quote me on that) and this years models will drop about 100 dollars in price.
