Not sure if this is the right place for this thread but....

main uses: gaming and sports

requirements: 1080P, 120HZ

budget: im a college student. preferably $900 or less

i've essentially narrowed it down to:

LG 47LD520 $799.99
Sony BRAVIA KDL-46EX500 $849.99
Samsung LN46C600 $797.99

they are all 1080p 120 hz. the lg has a 100,000:1 contrast ratio, samsung has 120,000:1, and sony has 150,000:1.

does anyone have any of these tvs.... or know anything about them? im thinking i will spend the extra on the Sony, but im open to any suggestions.

I'm pretty F'n ignorant about electronics so all the advice I've gotten says,
Plasma = Panasonic
LCD = Samsung

i wanted to buy plasma, but they aren't good for transporting. my college and home are 3 and a half hours apart, and i wont leave it there over summer and xmas. gotta go lcd or led.

lol i dont blame you for asking that at all. i want to upgrade from my 32 inch and can afford it pretty easily. i am ok with a 42 inch, and am still considering the 42LD520 for $649.99, but to be honest it was the only good deal on a 42 inch. the deals on the 46 inch ones are really good, and i figure if i am going to spend a lot of money, i might as well get something a little better.

plus me and my roommate (friend from high school) decided to split the responsibilities. He brings the car, i bring the TV and xbox. i figured since he brings an Impala, i better bring a good TV. ha thats really just a joke we have though.

If all things are equal, go with higher contrast ratio.

I just bought a 40" Bravia and Blu-Ray last weekend. I like pretty well but I'm not a tv/gaming guy. Had my old tv for 13 yrs. Figured I needed to join the 21st century.

For gaming and sports = plasma
Panasonic are considered the best plasmas.
HH Gregg has some good deals right now.

No point in getting a TV that big if you're in a dorm. If you're renting a house/apartment then go ahead and get the 46/47 inch.

for everyone talking about me not needing that big of a tv, i am in a dorm, but its a suite (3 rooms and 4 people). we plan to all stay in one room, make the middle room a study room, and make the third room a "chill room." playing split screen on a 32 inch kind of sucks to be honest. Also, i made the dean's list first semester, so my parents were ok with it and didn't feel it would affect my studies.

i ended up going with the 42LD520 for $650 before tax. after playing with the settings for a while and playing some black ops on it, im pretty satisfied. at first i felt like it was just way too dark, but after turning off the energy saving thing on it, it got much better. i adjusted a few more things with it as well and it looks good. It comes with "trumotion" or whatever its called, but i did not really like it. gives it too much of a lag.

i bought it knowing that if i wanted something bigger, i could go back within 30 days and get a new one. either way, i think the 42 inch is plenty big for me considering i have to transport it 3 and a half hours between my home and college. i just dont think the 46 inch would fit in the back of a car that well, and if it did, it would take up the entire backseat.

as far as my major, i am planning to major in english with a double minor in history and rhetoric. i will probably end up going pre-law.

I have the 40 inch Bravia EX500 and I like the picture quite a bit. The speakers buzz off and on though and it's annoying. May just be a glitch with mine.

Throw me into this one. College student looking to get a 37, 42, at most 46 inch tv and would just like some suggestions. (it's a combination of my only gift for the holidays plus doing really well this semester)

I don't want to end up with something ridiculously priced or overpriced but want something good/ worth its price. Also nothing just put onto a wall. Any suggestions?

I have a Samsung LCD tv that is 46". I haven't had any problems with it. the amount of HDMI inputs (3) is enough for me to hook up what I need. It has more than enough inputs for you and if you decide to get a Samsung Bluray player, they automatically sync up and work together when using an HDMI cable. The clarity on the LCD is great, but the clarity on an LED is better. My parents bought an LED and it looks better than the LCD. I'm guessing since the LED's can work faster than a crystal display can. It's not a HUGE difference, but noticeable for me. It is realatively light for moving, and the high gloss black looks great and is easy to clean. Samsung is the best quality and value IMO. If I were you, I would buy it on a card like a Best Buy card, then turn around and pay it off in one shot to up your credit if you don't have any/much. You can usually get like 12 months same as cash. Hope that helps!

to answer OP questions,

no i am not coming home every weekend, just on summer and xmas break.

I drive a 1996 Buick Le Sabre that i got for free from my gma (car is a car). However i dont have to pay for gas or insurance while at school because i leave my car here. I share my friend's impala with him.

I'd recommend the 42LD520 to any college student looking for a tv. for $700 after tax, its a pretty nice tv, and 42" is a great size (at least for my situation). If you are looking up to 46", look at the 3 i posted at the beginning of this thread. Those are all pretty good deals. If you will never have to move the TV, and it will be in a room with controllable light, i would HIGHLY recommend a panasonic plasma.

Part of me wants to take my tv back and either go with something bigger, or get a samsung/sony 40". not sure what ill do yet, but i feel like i could spend a little more for something better. Let me know if you have any suggestions.

As far as using a best buy card, they are extremely hard to get if you have little or no credit. I tried with my friend (car payment and 2 credit cards) as a cosigner, and got denied.

not happy with the blurryness of fable 3. might just be the game, but its rediculous. starting to see why reviews say it is hard to tell that this is a 120HZ set.
