Lofton's ankle *NOT* broken! X-rays show no fractures.

Thanks for the articles. Hopefully he can bounce back pretty quickly. I feel confident we will see his return soon. Now, if we can just hold it together during his absence...

No fractures - that is great news. I just hope that with Chris being such a competitor, that he doesn't try to come back too soon. It will be tough without him, but we'll definitely need him for the stretch run.

Wasn't the thought initially ligament problem? And, isn't ligament damage potentially a bigger problem than some fractures?

Sounded to me that they still don't know exactly what's wrong and might still be waiting on some tests.

Yeah, Pearl may have to tie him to the bench. Which brings up an interesting point - do you think that if he gets to a point where he is not exceptionally mobile, but can push off the ankle some, that Bruce might use him in catch & shoot opportunities at the end of close games? Provided there are any close games?

You are correct ... these results just confirm no broken bones. They are still waiting for swelling to go down to assess ligament damage, which given the swelling, is a highly likely possibility. The extent of that damage will probably determine whether or not he can play in 2 weeks, 4 weeks, or only during some sort of Tournament play.

Yep. Now we get to really assess Pearl's abilities as a coach, beyond what he did last year. The way I'm looking at it, if we win any of the next 4 games when/if Chris is out, I'll be pleasantly surprised.

Pearl sounded pretty hopeful/not worried about it when interviewed at the LadyVols game. I didn't catch the exact quote, but I think he said that Lofton would only be out for a couple of games.

i think he said that he would defiantly be out the Ole Miss game and would hopefully be back for the trip to Rupp

The fact of this matter is that NO ONE knows the extent of the damage, and it is impossible to know until the swelling goes down enough to present a clear MRI image. That could be tomorrow or as late as Wednesday depending on the severity of the swelling. The severity of the "turn" of the ankle APPEARED to be significant. He quite possibly could have severe torn ligaments which would likely put him on the shelf for the remainder of the season. Just my opinion. The reality is that we still need to be holding our collected breaths in hope of the best.

He definatly will not be playing at Rupp and probably not here against UGA according the Pearl.

i really think this team can win the next three games without lofton...ole miss, kent, and uga....yes all sec teams are tough but i trust pearl to have a good game plan and for the others to step up.

I'd rather have the fracture than a severe sprain. With a fracture, you're talking about the bone being re-set and waiting for it to heal; with connective tissue, there's all sorts of issues related to healing. The biggest thing is that connective tissue is poorly vasculated, so the blood doesn't have easy access (which speeds healing).
