Lofton Cut

Interesting. If I had to guess, I imagine that they wanted size/ball handling over a pure scorer.

I read the ESPN story, said that they took 5 big men. Lofton thrives in a system where he can shoot, and shoot often. It seems the selection committee is going for a more traditional, grind it out on the boards approach. I'm not overly concerned, I think Lofton is a better shooter than just about anyone, but that's not really what they were going for.

don't be disappointed that he was cut... it gives him some extra rest before the trip overseas with the team.

Just add this to his still-growing personal "I was overlooked" motivation. :good!:

I'm not surprised. I'll make a prediction right now that he'll wash out of the NBA within his first 2 years, and will be late first when he goes, maybe even 2nd.

Well his 2 years in, as you project, will still net him more money than most of us will ever see.

He won't wash out. He's not exactly Kobe, but in the right situation, he can be a great pro. There has to be a market for a guy who can hit from anywhere with a hand in his face.

Chris Lofton has the same chance of being a great NBA player as Rosie O'Donnell does of becoming Miss America.

I don't think anyone is saying Chris will be the next Kobe or MJ but he reminds me of a Craig Hodges, Steve Kerr type of guy that can stoke the outside shot. I think Luther Head is a prime example. Personaly I'm glad he didn't make the team. Less chance for a injury durring the Summer.

Lofton will not be a great NBA pro. He'll go to Europe and make plenty of money.

Lofton will be about the same as JJ Redick. If Chris is lucky he'll get to play in a system that lets him look better than he is.

My opinion? Bruce's system makes Lofton look much better than he actually is. In a more traditional system, there are a whole bunch of players I would take ahead of Chris.
Don't disagree, but our international teams have been noticeably void of great shooters over the past 10-15 years and it has mattered more than we'd like to believe.

Apparently there was not a big need on the team for a good outside shooting 2 guard.

Isn't that one of the complaints with the the U.S. teams? Poor fundamentals, particularly shooting? I think this will reflect badly if they field a team with a low shooting %.

Steve Kerr and the guys you've listed are much better players than Lofton. Luther Head is tuns quicker, and a better defensive player than Lofton. I'd love to see Lofton make it but in the NBA there isnt a whole lot of use for a 5'10 pure shooter. He is 5'10 despite what the roster says because I am an 6'1 and I have a good 3 inches on him when I stood next to him.
