Since redshirt junior offensive lineman and Christian Academy of Knoxville graduate Brett Kendrick joined the Tennessee football program four years ago, the Kendrick family has opened its home to his Vols teammates every Thanksgiving.

“It usually starts with about five or six players, and then Brett will call and ask if we have enough food so he can bring another teammate or two,” Beth Kendrick said Monday. “The answer is always ‘For sure. Come on over.’ We have never run out of food before.”

...Jennifer Smith, the mother of another CAK graduate, redshirt junior wide receiver Josh Smith, is expecting 10 to 12 Tennessee players at her Knoxville home for Thanksgiving. She immediately offered invitations once she heard many of the wide receivers needed a place to go.

“A lot of the parents are heartbroken they are not able to be with their children for Thanksgiving, so I try to make it as special as I can for them,” Smith said Monday. “I would think it would be hard for the guys too because it is such a special time to be at home. It’s nice to be able to provide them with a real Thanksgiving meal and a place to relax.”
