In recruiting. A thread on TOS got me to thinking.

Do you diagree with any of those comments made by Kiffin?

In order to compete with the top teams in America, do we need the top talent or are we trying a different approach now with Dooley? We're just going to "coach 'em up" and put in a "character program"?

I think you have to have a little of both. We have to have good talent with upside, but as we saw with Fulmer, if they aren't coached up usually they won't shine

Got to have talent to win, but if your bringing in a core of guys that will work their asses off for the Power T it will be contagious to all members of the team. Thats how you get a team thats hungry to line up each and every snap to play at the tops of collegiate football.

I think some teams such as Boise have shown that talent isnt everything

We have to consistently get top 7 or 8 classes with an occasional top 2 or 3 class. If you're pulling in top 15-20 classes, it's not going to fly... especially when Florida, Bama, Georgia, LSU, and Auburn are all ahead of us.

They also don't play in the SEC. They would lose 3-4 games a year in the SEC... not bad necessarily, but coaching only takes you so far.

Yep. They'd have to recruit much better than they do to get to a 3 loss level in SEC competition, though.

/agree. IMO Florida has not done a good job of coaching up talent in the last few years and I think some professional commentators have mentioned this. Same thing with LSU. Between Florida and Alabama, Alabama is the biggest long term threat to us. Florida will be the first to fall.

In middle school talent alone wins. In High School, talent with a little discipline wins. In the SEC and beyond(nfl) perfect discipline with talent wins.

Just think of A-- holes last class with the approach of getting top talent. How has that worked out Three arrested before the season is over, headliner of the class gone. The roster is in much worse shape than when he arrived and the best lineman we had is throwing away a year just so he can join them next year.If you go and look at all the great teams in any sport they all have the stars but they also have very good and WELL COACHED roll players.I think CCS is an up grade over CEO,Although Monty is a great NFL coach the collage game is different, Boise St. defense has done more with less than any other program in the country.
Don't get me wrong I was drinking the Kool-Aid by the gallons last year but after the secondarys started piling up I did not want to become the U part two. It's not all about the victories to me it's about how you win(with class). When the kid left the field after the bowl game and disrespected CFB I was through with him.

that ACC team took us to the woodshed last year

Haha ok? We weren't very good last year in case you didn't notice. We had signs of really good coaching and player development, but our talent/depth were abysmal... especially on the lines.

I agree somewhat, but having the ability to scout talent combined with coaching has helped schools like Boise. They couldn't beat the teams they have played without some really solid athletes and schemes.

Well we are playing an Oregon team that is a border line top 10 program now and they are usually luck to get a top 25 class. Sometimes a great scheme can make up for lesser talent. I will take an Oregon team with the 15 class over a USC team with the number 1 class.
