Can someone explain to me what our OFFENSIVE STYLE is?

Last week we used more motion, reverses but I don't remember any motion plays this week.

We called about 5-6 of those sweep plays (which we did well)... but did we call any the first week?

We are finally going deep, but I feel like it's the same play over and over.

Where are the TE's?

Do we have a new playbook everyweek?

Its a new staff installing and tweaking. Putting things on film in glorified scrimmages. We should see what our offense “wants” to do in the coming weeks. But, if I know Pruitt, I have a feeling the offense will look a lot like Jimbo’s.

It’s still a pro style offense. A lot of times teams use motion is to help the QB read whether the defense is in man or zone coverage. I thought we did more tosses this week with linemen pulling because we were having more success than straight runs. The toss sweeps were not wide so glorified power plays.

I'm ok with the emergence of the toss-sweep, as it shows the staff isn't "stuck" on only doing on style/scheme, such as butch and staff were on the zone/read stuff. It at least shows that the staff is watching/studying film and determining what's the best way to attack the team they're playing next.

What I'm more concerned about are some clock-management, such as at the end of the 2nd quarter yesterday, and our lack of adjustments at the line of scrimmage during a play. For example, I noticed a few times yesterday when UTEP had only 5 in the box and, even after we looked to the sideline for our play call, we still tried to force a throw. Likewise, other times they had 7 and we would try to run the ball.

Either way...Helton has the luxury of following Larry Scott's offense. Any of us could put an offense together that would be an improvement over last year.

I never believed in the conservative approach with games that do not matter...How do you know things are going to work if you don't at least try them during a game be it worthless or not?...I don't believe we are playing vanilla I believe we are showing everything on the table and its not much but until Pruitt and the rest of the staff gains confidence in this team this is what we are going to see week in and week out...We are not going to pull some magic rabbit out of the hat...We are not a good football team so any win is a step in the right direction.

They are trying to develop a running game. Thats why we got a 50-19 run to pass ratio. If we can't run the ball successfuly JG will be in traction by the Bama game :D

If you played ball you already know, but most coaches add wrinkles to their offense week in and week out. It all depends on weaknesses the OC sees in the defense we’re going against. It’s not uncommon though to see completely new formations or plays one week only to not see them again for weeks or the whole year in some cases. I think it all boils down to Helton wanting to see what we can execute and what we can’t though. I’m sure we will see the Palmer sweep again this year, probably against Florida honestly. Overall we are a run first offense though, everything we do stems from how we are running the ball. As for Te’s getting involved, I don’t foresee much happening from that group outside of Andrrson and maybe wolf, pope has been great at FB though so I have to
Give him some major
Props.

JG designed runs was a wrinkle that was added. There hasn't been much happen up the middle seems to me, but it could be running backs not seeing a hole sometimes.

When Helton came in, he said they were going to be very multiple. Over the summer, the players even talked about it as an advantage. They are definitely showing that this is what they want to be, but is it the right move? I like seeing multiple looks and having the defense guessing, but right now, it appears we are also guessing. For the skill positions, it’s hard to tell when they are out of place. For the line, it’s painfully obvious. Has Helton installed too much? Is there a way to be multiple but keep the OLine schemes simple.

Right now it appears some of these guys are using terrible technique. Add that to not knowing assignments, and we get what we are seeing. Can we dumb it down for the line and just coach technique until they can handle more?

First time OC trying to figure it out also the staff has never coached these players in real games before now. Gotta try a lot of things to see what is most effective.

I agree, I think the staff is still learning just what this team can do and what they like to do. As you noted, they have looked different every game and at times every series. I think the staff now has a pretty good idea what will work. I look for much more continuity starting Saturday.
Someone above wondered about the timing of the QB change. Just wonder if the staff just wanted to see how well the experienced qb could handle the 2 min drill. Without showing too much from the playbook? ( I know thin line of thought)
