Yes, I know that's my first mistake.

However, he said something along the lines of "I have a question for TN fans, what have you done to feel entitled to a New Year's Day Bowl."

I have not seen anyone on here say we deserved it over Mississippi St., and if I missed it then whoever said that is an idiot. However, what I have seen is pissed off people that are mad because 1. We should've been in the Outback bowl last year but Auburn guaranteed a lot of things to their bowl committee and 2. Florida gets to do whatever they want to while from indications it seems like there was at least a little pressure on the Gator Bowl to pick MSU. That is why UT fans got mad over the Gator Bowl, and not because we somehow felt entitled to go to it.

What should've happened was pressure should've been put on the Outback bowl to pick Mississippi St. or South Carolina (two teams with better records that beat Florida head to head) and then let the pieces fall where they were supposed to.

Sorry that just pissed me off because I'm pretty sure I've seen no one argue that we deserve a NYD bowl over Mississippi St. this year.

That being said, I'm glad to be in any bowl and can't wait for that ass whipping we are about to put on UNC.

Tennessee applied some of that pressure for MSU to go to GB. The bad PR that UT was going to get for the number of fans that were going to end up eating MCB tickets was worse than the positives of going to Jacksonville.

UT breathed a sigh of relief when GB took MSU and so did Scott Ramsey, Nashville and the Music City Bowl.

so the same fans complaining MH didn't get the Gator are the same ones who forced his hand? That's nice

Finebaum = Tool of tools.

Well, at least an equal seating with Cowherd. I can't stand anything that guy says. No one said we "deserved" the GB. I thought we were going to be pleasantly surprised with it, but big deal, I'd rather go to the MCB anyway because of the easy ability to travel to it in this economy.

I hadn't heard any indication that it was UT who applied pressure to the Gator Bowl. I was under the impression that it was the SEC.

If this is in fact true, this is probably the worst of MH offenses since he's held the AD job. The fact that he would be willing to sell UT football short AGAIN, and go to a crappy December bowl as opposed to a pretigous NYD game just to appease a bunch of idiots who jumped the gun on buying bowl tickets should be cause enough for termination even without all the other stuff that's gone wrong under his watch. Again though, I hadn't heard anything that indicated it was UT who wanted MSU in the Gator.

Tennessee landed where they should have and against a intriguing opponent due to the buyout. I have no complaints. The bowl system is terrible anyway, to long a layoff between games and too many games. We need a playoff system yesterday.

That is funny. Championship game and BCS games = prestigious. Gator Bowl not = prestigious.

Given where this team was in October, a Bowl in front of a home audience could be great momentum going into the off season as opposed to a couple of thousand fans at a meaningless bowl in FL.

You can't seriously be trying to argue that playing in Nashville 2 days before NYD against a basketball school looks better to recruits than playing on the huge national stage that is NYD against Michigan. I still think we are where we deserve to be, all I was saying is that IF MH actively tried to get UT to play in Nashville as opposed to J'ville just to appease the fools who bought MCB tickets without knowing for sure that's where we were playing, then IMO it's the most worst in a long line of terrible mistakes he's made as AD. We're trying to rebuild our FB program, and playing in a NYD bowl would have helped that effort greatly.

Gator Bowl would have greatly helped rebuild our program. Okay?!?

Do you seriously think a recruit is going to select another school over UT because we are playing in front of a full stadium a couple of days before NYD as opposed to a couple thousand fans on NYD? I think that they would be excited about the enthusiasm and support.

Quick (don’t look it up) – who played in the Gator Bowl last year?

Who is going to actually watch the Gator Bowl?
Ticket City Bowl 12:00 Nortwestern v Texas Tech
Outback Bowl 1:00 Florida v Penn State
Capitol One Bowl 1:00 Alabama v Michigan State
Gator Bowl 1:30 Miss St v Michigan

So if you play on NYD and no one sees it is it any better than playing at 6:30 on Thursday before a long weekend?
I really don't see a huge difference besides weather in these two bowls.

Finebaum will always take shots at UT on air just to validate the beliefs of the bammer's listening .... blah blah blah .... completely baseless. Very few, if any, UT fans thought we "deserved" the gator bowl

Impressive. I bet most can't.

I'm not trying to say the Gator Bowl is on par with BCS bowls or anything, I'm just saying it's quite a bit better than the MCB and if our AD actively tried to get out of it just to keep people who bought tickets without even knowing for sure we we playing in Nashville (which I haven't heard ANY report to validate this, only an earlier poster suggesting that it happened) then that's pretty crappy on his part.

A Michigan v. UT matchup would have generated enough interest to get viewers just on the names of the 2 programs alone. I would be willing to bet that the GB would have drawn a higher TV rating with UT playing Michigan than they will with MSU. Considering that they have no title sponsor this year, getting a big TV number would have helped them considerably.

Before you say "Obviously the GB sucks, they don't even have a title sponsor" consider that the GB drew a 3.95 rating last season (which will likely go higher this year with the addition of an SEC team and Michigan) and the MCB drew only a 1.95. The difference in viewership is significant.

the state of Tennessee and the city of Nashville were also MUCH in favor of Tennessee over Mississippi State for the MCB. There were plenty of pressures.

From a UT standpoint, hard to say how much "pressure" was exerted to push MSU to the GB but very little "pressure" was applied to pushing for UT in the GB. I did a poor job of phrasing that previously.

and everyone GAGS...so what should TN have done...turned down a bowl invitation because we didn't DESERVE it? Slimebum doesn't deserve the money he makes touting himself as a 'sports expert' either but that's life. He is the Jerry Springer of sports..a parasite! It is very unfortunate that he is a TN GRAD...he does not deserve to be associated with TN!
