I have asked this question here before with no response but I will ask again. Does anyone here use Linux or have any experience with it?

I am running Ubuntu Linux on my laptop (which I am using to type this) and I use Damn Small Linux on an old machine that I have been using as a server.

I would and I've been told it's less troublesome than Windows, but at the same time it's not compatible with very much software...

Linux is not quite there yet as a complete desktop replacement but you can do most of what you can do in windows with the exception of many of the games.

That's my main problem. I don't play games too often, but every now and then I HAVE to play Rainbow 6 or Rise Of Nations.

Many of the tech guys swear by it, but many of the gamers hate it. You're right about the game support for Linux though. However, many of the newer games (like BF2) support both. I think it really depends on the resources of the game designers. I have a system I'm about to upgrade and install Linux just to play around w/ it.

I think they will be forced to design games that support Linux. We are already starting to see them start to include dual-core technology in the new game designs.

I use Auditor sometimes for its networking tools (it is based off of Knoppix) and I have also used Mandrake, but I still find myself more comfortable in the day to day setting of Windows...
