I dont know that I can recall a worse line on offense or defense in a whole bunch of years.

Offense line is playing weak. while they seem to be able to pass protect o.k., they cannot push any dline back. These guys are 6 ft they should be able to fall forward and get 2 yards for the runner. They are getting blown off the ball. Even in their pass protecting, they tend to let d get to the qb alot more than they should. The running game completely sucked. Not all the lines fault, backs have to be able to hit holes and avoid running into our own guys, but the line is horrible.

Defense is terrible, have we stopped a team from running this year. Af ran all over us, Cal ran up 18 points in a quick amount of time, fl ran all over us. We knew when tebow was out what they where going to do, but still couldnt stop them.

I just dont think our lines are anywhere near where they should be. Just seem like they are weak.

And while I am a cutcliffe fan, he has always been the type to get a lead, and instead of going for the jugular, try and run the clock. We had a full half of football left, and he is running on first and second with no success.I would just like to see the coaches grow some n_ts and if we cant run, pass, if we cant pass, run, and never let off the gas.

Even Chavis got outcoached, the announcers knew what we were doing. We where so predictable on defense, they knew where the blitzes were coming from. I have not really seen a great defensive scheme from this team since the Miami game serveral years ago, that was genious, but not since. I think chavis is a great coach and he usually has such a great defense, that even if they are predictable, we still dominated on pure talent. He will not be able to do that this year, he has to scheme better.

I love the vols, and I am not calling for coaching changes. I just want them to fix the problems without affecting the things that are ok now. I still think that this will be a good year, and fl will loose, and TN will be in sec championship with one loss, but the lines have to hit the weight room, and the backs have to hit the holes.

Go Vols

We haven't had a dominant offensive line in several years. It is obvious that we need a more athletic and physical O-line. However, I feel this group is better than last year.

When a team puts 8 in the box it is tough to run and you have to be able to throw it and make plays. I thought we did enough on offense through the air. A couple plays here and there and we lost.

A good hard fought game. I am proud of the way we played. We are much improved overall.

Check the D and O lines of 2002. There is no way we are worse than we were that year.

The D line played well enough to win the game, especially with an injured Harrell and a missing DB that allows you to do a few more things up front because of a better ability to cover.

When I saw at halftime that our defense had been on the field for 20 minutes as opposed to Florida's 10, the thought crossed my mind that we HAVE to try to run the football. Otherwise, late in the game, against a D line that has been out there all night, we might have trouble getting a stop on 3rd and 5 when we need it. It didn't work out that way, and we didn't get the stop, but I understand the attempt to establish some kind of running threat and some kind of ball control.

The run blocking of the O-line is an entirely different matter.:ill_h4h:

I'm in total agreement about both lines, they're just not anwhere close to being as good as they should be.

I thought our D-line was weak against Cal, most of the pressure came from the LB's and we all know what happened with Air Force and UF.

This could be a looonnnggg season if the lines don't step it up..

We stopped Cal running. the other two teams... not so much

Lynch got 78 yards on only 12 carries I think. If they chose to run it more (and I have no clue why they didn't), it might have been a little different. Cal's QB's had ALL DAY to throw the ball, they just weren't good at it. The sacks that our line did get, were more coverage sacks than anything.
