I wonder how this works exactly? Seems like a strange name for it.

Coach Phillip Fulmer announced that the Vols are using a “menuing” system that will allow young receivers to run the plays they know well early in the season.

“As the season progresses, that will depart,” Cutcliffe said. “We’re not going to quit teaching them other parts. We will increase and progress with the menu.

I took it to mean that they will give the new guys the playbook in layers rather than throwing it at them all at once.

My guess is that there is a simplified playbook for them... pretty much "If we call A, B, C, D, E or F, run this route... if we call G, H, I, or J, run this route. etc."

... then you slowly change things for them until it matches the actual playbook as they progress.

I think it means, for example, Vinson goes to the huddle and says "I'd like a go route, super sized, with coke to drink." Not sure, though.

Would you like to add a Tight End up the seam or perhaps a fresh hot crossing route underneath for only 99 cents?

My guess, depending on how many recievers are out there on any given play, is that Ainge will call for certain WR's to run this route, and the others to choose theirs....maybe?

Why yes, I've already loaded my arteries with routes, why not add more for such a good value? Hell, add a hot apple slant route to it, too.

I wonder if this is going to involve everybody wearing those wristbands with Cliffs Notes on them?

If they standardize the routes, as in ABC and D run here. And EFG and H run here, would that make it easier for the defense to adjust and know the play??

To me, that would seem to just complicate things.

Most systems I've ever heard of use letters to designate the receivers and then have numbers for the pass routes and sometimes have names for route combinations. I'm sure the details get pretty intricate, but it's not really rocket science either.

Sounds like the new guys would get a set of plays but not the same plays. Limits audibles a little but doesn't tip your hand to the defense since they won't know who does what. Every week they learn more. Anyone who couldn't pick more up would lose PT.

By the time anyone picked up a pattern, the guys who need to play should have a good grip on the playbook... just my take/guess.

Kenny Oneil needs to learn 2 plays.....the "fly" and the "post"

Coker might see some time in the slot, but I doubt he'll be on the outside catching bubble screens.
