Let's not overanalyze one game

Posted this in the game thread, but it bears repeating. Ohio State barely survived N. Illinois last year (identical 20-13 score) and Clemson had 2 games against the 'Cuse and USCjr that were 1 score games. Both were 4-8 last year. Ohio St went to the Big 10 Championship and finished top 5. Clemson fared pretty well too. Ugly wins happen for good teams and for good coaches. So yes, the OP is correct. Burn the tape and move on.

This reminded me of the Air Force game. We killed a good Cal team then beat AF the next week by only one little point. We will be ready next week, and hopefully they will open the playbook a little more.
Exactly

A 100 years from now it wont make a ffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff a win is a win. but as a fan of 47 years and watched thousands of games this Tennessee team will not reach the top with our QB play anybody with any football IQ knows when it comes crunch time Doobs cant beat you his passing now he can beat you with his legs but his legs wont get us to Atlanta it will get us 8 and 4 he is a special person be he isn't a special QB like last year in the big games he could not throw the the ball when it counts i dont see nothing changing so 8 and 4 again and light up another over rated big 10 team in the bowl.

67 yard TD pass was not a throw when it counts?

There are many games in a season.

Last year wasn't defined by giving up 30
to Bowling Green. It wasn't defined by only putting up 24 points against North Texas. It wasn't defined by a surprisingly close 27-24 win over a mediocre South Carolina team.
We can't base our success on one game.

We played an underrated App State team, and while we should have won by at least two touchdowns, sometimes things just don't go the way you plan.

I am still excited to see what our offense looks like if we open up the play book and decide to run more plays than Hurd up the middle. I am also excited to see how our defense looks against a team that actually passes the ball, so we can actually see what our pass rush is made of.

This is going to be a long season. I'm just happy that it's that time of year for us to talk about this stuff again.

I don't know about you guys but I'm relieved. There will certainly be some surprises this Saturday, and I am sure as hell happy it won't be us this week!

its always better to win than lose.... no matter how ugly....but the frustration watching an experienced team play like crap against appy st is going to rub a lot of fans the wrong way. the coaching sucked too. cbj 4th yr with a experienced talented roster....picked to win the sec east by most......play like clueless rookies. unexceptable. fans have a right to be peed. ppl spend lots of money for this poor play. starts at the top everytime. the best coaches would have had their teams ready imo. Its ok to have high expectations for UT and be ticked when the staff and co stinks it up against appy st :peace2:

Vols got work to do.

Shouldn't have anyone not listening at Monday's practice. Probably better than winning 49-3 if you think @ it.

As long as Dobbs ribs are OK after than OT dive. Eerily similar to Casey Clausen's OT injury in 03' vs a mediocre opponent that should have never made it to OT. That injury derailed our season.

There were positives and negatives I took from this game with the majority of my thoughts getting aimed at our SR QB who is supposed to be the on and off field leader. The major of the game he would take one step forward then 2 steps back. First I start with the good or positives..First and foremost we battled back and won a home game that based off our play vs theirs they deserved to win and we deserved to lose but what matters is we begin the season 1-0.Josh had a few really nice passes, including the deep pass to Malone that tied up the game. He had several nice passes to Preston and Wolf also. I was shocked to not see him take off and run but just a few times and my guess is he was instructed to cut down on his runs and take less hits. Now unfortunately to the two steps back part or the negatives which unfortunately he had more many more negatives than positives.I will start with the ill advised interception that cost us atleast 3 points. That was the type of mistake that a true FR making his first start would make not a SR that has been a starter his 4 yrs he has been at UT. There aren't many worse int's a QB could make and it's magnified because he is a SR and has had his name mentioned with the Heisman but we all know that doesn't happen in his or our lifetine. Next he had 2 more fumbles that again he was very fortunate that Appy St didn't recover. Especially the one on the goal line that could have been classified as ill-advised because it lead to him having another Fumble that just like his int could have and most likely would have lost the game for us. But he had the football gods on his side on that play with Hurd not only recovering it but also getting a TD out of it. I can honestly say I have never seen a QB Fumble the ball as much as he did last season and starting off where he ended last year having Fumble issues. Last year he had 10 fumbles and only lost 4 and I will be damned if he doesn't have 2 more tonight and didn't lose either one of them.If you are Butch Jones and Mike Debord and you have him cut down on his QB runs a good bit this year but he continues the trend from last year. Such as holding on to the ball way to long, then making horrible decisions that a SR with as many starts as he has just shouldn't continue to do. But he keeps on doing it and continuing to almost cost us game or even costing us some do you consider making a change? He obviously isn't going to learn at this stage to not keep on making the same mistakes week in and out. If they are limiting his runs then the one thing he can do well he barely gets to do it anyway.S o why not go ahead and play JG or Dormady and let one of them Elevate our passing game and we still have Hurd and Kamara running the ball. Just seems like a no brainer. I seriously expected to see a much improved Josh Dobb's and a guy who is a SR who at the very least won't make stupid decisios that could cost us games. Dobb's did every he could possibly do to give the game to Appy St but for some reason they weren't accepting gifts tonight so we just decided to take the W since they didn't want it. Something at the QB position has got to give or we will be lucky to go 7-5 or 8-4.

Let's see how Appy plays Miami in Boone. Then we'll have another major data point to judge how good they really are.

I truly think they will beat Miami, I'll say it right now. However, we have to get MUCH, MUCH BETTER before Bristol.

Well in this case if Dobb's can't play it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world and it definitely wouldn't detail our season. Josh was more of a liability out there tonight than an asset. Some people may not want to hear that but anyone that watched the full game knows I'm not wrong by thinking that and I guarantee I'm not the only one who has thought that.
