Do you honestly think that Cower wouldn't be successful in K-town? Recruiting wouldn't be a problem and whether you like the guy or not, his coaching record speaks for itself. Lets be rational here.

He built the Steelers franchise and was the coach there for ever. He is a winner and a intimidating presence, type of coach that young guys want to come play for. Old fashion smash mouth, run the ball and play defense to win games. I love the idea of him coming here. I wouldn't even want Troy Aikman for OC.

Chuck Noll and the Rooney family built the franchise, but CC held up his end and it looks like they hired another good coach in Tomlin. Maybe Hammy ought to call Art Jr. for advice if nothing else.

I think there may be more reasons he would prefer a college job after all, there were reasons he walked away from the NFL in the first place. Also, there is a reason Spurrier and Saban decided to come back. It is a different world dealing with owners and players that are on multi-million dollar contracts and you have to deal within player union rules and balance the ridiculous egos. Maybe going into the home of a recruit and spending some time with the families of kids that still have the burning desire to play for the love of the game, and prove themselves, is not such a hard thing. I think players would flock to Cower, and the Steelers players never seemed to have a lack of respect for him.
One thing for sure, there won't be a lack of discipline on the team and I bet the players will have enough fear to knock off some of the of the field stuff that has been a problem in the past. It shall be interesting!

Name them? I will excuse your Aikman choice since he has ZERO experience in coaching and wouldn't be a canditate for any tier 1 or tier 2 FBS team.

With that comment you have my condolences for your choice. Dallas the most overpaid, underachieving team in the NFL. They are quickly becoming the new Al Davis Raiders.

For the same reasons I think Gruden would come to Knoxville, my 2nd choice would be Cowher.

It would be awesome if we got someone like Bill Cower. For some reason I'm afraid we are all getting our hopes up for a big name, but will end up with someone like Jim Grobe or something. Not that he's a bad coach. It's just that he doesn't stir up much excitement, at least for me.

I would rather have a coach that can win than a big name coach.

a) don't forget, Cowher was the Phil FUlmer of the NFL......
b) Jim Grobe is a very good, bordering on great, coach. his largest problem in fitting in with what TN does or would like to do is he likes to red shirt and build and develop classes over time. that's a luxury he likely won't have here, that he has in spades in Winston Salem.
