I know there are a lot of you who don't like Pearl and that is fine, you have your opinion, but this program needs Bruce Pearl. I don't count this year because this was not a Pearl type team and he will do everything in his power to fix it.

He has had a lot of success and has us on national TV quite a few times during the year and he is a great ambassador for the University. Even in a "down year" we still won the SEC east, finished ahead of UK for four years in a row (never been done before), and were in the NCAA tourney for the fourth straight year.

Give the man 2-3 more years and we could make a final four run.

Keep Bruce in Knoxville!

If Bruce wants to stay, that's great. But if he can bankroll what he's at UT into a big payday, then he should go for it.

Some are making a big deal about BP making 2 mil., seems like a bargain after what JC just signed for.

Everything is a bargain compared to Cal's deal. It's an outlier and should be ignored by all other institutions that aren't desperate.

True, but I believe Pearl would now be like the 4th or 5th highest paid coach in the conference. Obviously Cal makes more, Grant now makes more, I'm thinking Trent Johnson is very close to Pearl's salary if not more, and Georgia is willing to pay more.

So? Because somebody else overpays we should redo somebody's contract?

True, and if the administration feels they need to up the ante (slightly) to fall in line with more recent coaching contracts, then so be it, but what Cal makes should never be a part of the equation. It's an outlier.

I was just making the point that the market value for coaches in the conference has changed. I agree that all of these positions are overpaid.

Market values are always changing. That's why the coaches who have the most recent contracts usually make the most. Doesn't mean they're being overpaid, just that they were most recent to negotiate a deal.

Do you think KY overpayed for JC, Hat?
No way to evaluate that right now. If they're sitting around five years from now with multiple Final Four appearances and a National Championship, it's worth every penny. If they win 22 games a year and exit the Tournament before the final weekend each year, they've overpaid.

I think he will be successful there. Now to UK standards, I don't know. But he will win.

I hope we keep Pearl! The man has brought excitement back to UT basketball...something that we have lacked for how many years? He plays a national schedule and we get national attention....great ambassador for UT!

If he wants to go - let him go - that's fine. If he wants to be here then great also. Doesn't need to waste our time.

I just hope Hamilton makes a splash this time and not the Bruce Pearl route if he were to leave.

i just dont see how anyone could want pearl gone! i mean look what he has done for the university! when you see the inside of thompson boling arena now it looks like a pro arena...if we still had buzz do you thing we would have had that or the pratt pavilion?..do you think we would average over 20k a game? you must seriously want mediocrity back at the hill because no coach has been able to sell the university like bruce has and in my opinion no one else will be able to like him nor has any coach took us to the nccaa tourny as much in their first 4 years ..hes 4 out of 4, can buzz say that? how bout jerry? or even kevin? i think not! get your info strait before you want bruce out!

If he leaves for Memphis, that will show his true character imo.

Do you honestly think Bruce Pearl is the only coach in the country who could have led us to the success we've had in the past 4 years at UT?

I've never understood this debate. Bruce Pearl's results in 4 years at UT would be very comparable to what any coach in the country could have done here in this time span.

Pitino, Izzo, Knight, Calipari, Coach K, Williams, I could keep going if you would like me to

Except any coach in the SEC since he has the best record in the conference during his tenure. So many on this board have short memories and really don't seem to put much thought in their statements.
