Unless JG or McBride transforms into a Heisman candidate prior to SCjr game, Butch is done. 7-5 won't cut it.
7-5 with a top 5 recruiting class, and noticible improvement in a transition year would cut it.
UT is/was setting up to be much better team next year with a good number returning. This is falling apart as I see more transfers coming. Unexpected Jones to slide to center and Boulware to move in at guard. Apparently, it's bad, because Boulware does not have a redshirt and is transferring to sit our and play one year.
The bigger problem is noticible improvement. UT has looked absolutely horrid at times on both sides of the ball, but specifically offense and has shown no progress. In fact. The flashes the offense showed late in the GT game have never resurfaced. Inept, would be a good word.
An experienced line and gifted RBs should've allowed the coaches to implement a hand on the ground, fire off the ball, run game, that sets up the pass. Instead, as evidenced by the 1st play at UGA (empty back field) all WRs running shallow routes) it hasn't. That is incompetence. When a former UT QB is on TV diagramming the play and shaking his head, it's bad.
This would have been a good year for Butch to run some under center, let his Oline put a hand in the dirt, grind some clock, huddle pre-snap, and keep his D off the field. It couldn't have been handled worse.
With the coaching changes and comments out of Fall camp, I actually expected this. Butch knew his roster. Any competent coach could have seen what needed to be done. Any decent coach can see how the passive blocking is hampering the strengths of your oline.
