It's funny how some people feel varying degrees of appreciation for teams of the SEC, while other people feel varying degrees of hate for all those same teams.
There's no objective truth in either perspective, just subjective "truths" based on different ways of seeing the world.
I personally love the SEC, our traditions, our programs, our history, all of it. I love to hate some of them, but I still respect every single one. Even Vandy, if only because my daughters went there lol.
I like that "the swamp" is part of the SEC, and Toomer's Corner, and the Grove, and even UGa's stupid little dog house. I like the hedges. I like Vandyites anchoring down before each loss in front of a fan base that must number in the hundreds. I like Bayou Bengals and a falcon flying down into the stadium while these other tiger fans chant war eagle (never understood that, but still i like it). I like the 2001 space odyssey thing USCe does, and I like that Kentucky is copy-catting us with checkerboards that they claim they had first (someone point out to them how long ago Ayers Hall was built).
I just love being part of the SEC, best in the nation, and having what once was, and will be again, one of the premier programs in that league.
That's my truth.
Go Vols!
p.s. I thought of more that should be mentioned! I like the Egg Bowl, the Iron Bowl, and the Third Saturday in October. I like that four SEC schools face off against four ACC foes, all in-state rivals, all in the same weekend at the end of the year. I like that Sewanee, little old Sewanee, used to be a powerhouse in this conference. I like stories about the General, and the Bear, and Shug Jordan. I like old football magazine covers with orange and crimson jerseys clashing for the ball. There so much to like about the SEC, I could keep p.s.ing for hours. I'll try to restrain myself, though, heh. Go Vols!
