Let’s hold off on the couch burning and plane tracking for another 3-4 games

I’ve learned my lesson. I was all for giving Dooley, Jones, Pruitt time for their process to return UT to a champion. I hung in there with them because I believed a coach needed some time to recruit and change a losing culture. All the while VolNation was screaming FIRE THEM. I now know how wrong I was.

After losing his first game as head coach, Huepel has shown he’s not the guy. Call in the lawyers, cut losses and start the search for a 100% win guy. No use fighting. Just give up and move on.

It's almost like we've been here before.

TN was in a very difficult spot with the absolute mess Fulmer and Pruitt put us in. We know AD White made serious attempts at hiring proven rebuilders but they turned us down. Heupel wasn't White's 1st choice, not even sure he was in the initial top 5 but was probably always considered a backup option. Regardless, he's our head coach now. If he sends Milton out there next week it will be another disappointing season. Not sure what else he needs to see with Milton. The only SEC game we'd be favored in with Milton starting would be Vandy, he's that bad. When you're opponent knows you can't throw downfield you lose a lot of options.

Great tweet by Trey Wallace (italicized below) during the game. Sums it up succinctly. Yes, there were way too many penalties, bad ref calls, bad play calls, etc. However, even if one of Milton's throws connects for a TD that's 4 more pts, if two connect for TDs, game is probably out of reach for Pitt.

Whew, can’t keep missing these wide open receivers.

Could be 21-0 right now.

Why would anyone be talking about firing heupel?
So far he has us competitive even though we lost a 3rd of our roster. We lost our best linebacker, one of the best offensive lineman, our best running back and many others. Did anyone think that we would be world beaters this year? Did nobody think that this is a massive rebuild right now? We lost by a touchdown. It's not like it was a blowout (we are probably gonna see a few of those this year btw).
I'll be honest I wasn't sure of the hire but as of now I'm on board. There were bad calls from the refs and our coaching staff but I can see us heading in a different direction.

Only Huepel’s biggest fans are tossing out the fire Huepel strawman.

It is a thinly veiled attempt to demonize anyone critical of the coach, and program.

Don’t fall for it.

So did Hugh Freeze actually turn us down then?

That’s not true. I’ve seen at least 6-7 posters people saying to go ahead and cut bait and even more already saying stuff like “oh he isn’t the guy” tonight

Sure are a lot of Pumpers responding to 6-7 guys in 40 new threads since the game ended.

Them fellers must get around.

Ok, will do, but only because I've run out of couches after Pruitt and Covid has screwed up the furniture supply chain

Coach deserves some time to give it his best shot, but if he starts Milton next Sat, you can't blame the heat he'll get on global warming.

Thats a good question and one I almost whipped out earlier but I decided to just let it go .Im not even sure they put out the proper feelers to give CHF a head start of being escorted around campus on a tour of what hopping up on the Big Orange Train might look like . I’m sure that when nut cutting time rolled around they could have come to a mutual understanding that was beneficial to both parties but were afraid of the optics involved of getting caught with either egg on their faces or their pants down around their ankles .

Probably could have gotten CHF for a bargain but the impending investigation was not a chance they were willing to take . I would have been PUMPED if they had hired CHF but as far as sloppy seconds go Josh Heupel still seems like a pretty good score .

I like Coach. And I love this offense. The style. The pace.

What I don't like is that terrible bad play call to run it right up the middle on 4th and short. And I don't like the fact Milton can't throw the ball into the ocean if he was standing on the beach.

If we had a QB that truly fit this offense we would be a very competitive football team and would surprise a lot of teams.

At this point I think it's more on the players and not the coach. Coach gave Milton several plays in a row to get a passing TD. Milton had plenty of time but couldn't hit the receivers. A few were wide open.

Coach has set this team up to be successful. The players have to execute. And it all starts at QB.

Might want to sticky this. Heupel ain’t the guy. Unfortunately, even if we had a blank check, there’s no one that would come to this steaming pile of excrement. We gonna be like the Israelites wandering in the desert for 40 years. This is the new norm for UT football. Better get used to it.
