Less than 48 hrs to NSD

Considering that the 2008 signing class came in 35th after going to the SECG in 07, follow that with a 5-7 record in 08 and we have only had a full staff 3-4 weeks I say rock on!

CLK has said all the right things...hoping he can back some of it up. If not, we will quickly become the laughing stock of the SEC

i think we have already achieved that.

What are you basing that on? Kiffin has put together a great staff that would be the envy of about any program in the nation. Why would you expect them to achieve less on the field? You sound like a Bammer and we haven't even had a spring practice yet.

I think this thread has become the laughing stock of VN. Where did all the chicken little, sky is falling fans come from? If you guys didn't notice, we sucked last year. It's no surprise that we aren't landing a top class after a coaching change and one of our worst seasons in history in which we weren't competitive in our biggest games.

I can promise you that other coaching staffs in the SEC are laughing a lot less now than they were before Phil was fired. Saban and CUM were always gracious to Phil because he was always gracious enough to lose to them. They won't be so gracious to Kiffin.

Guys, your overreacting, plain and simple. This is not gonna be a great NSD for the Vols. It's not. This year doesn't matter. Kiffin hasn't had his staff for a full month. If we have this kinda staff next year, then yes, panic. Whatever good, solid prospect we get this year to me is just a bonus.

I don't know, most had us top 10 with a chance to be top 5 before Fulmer was fired.

Now it looks like a very solid class has fallen apart.

I wish him nothing but the best and am hoping we shock the world on NSD, but I ain't holdin my breath.

I am not expecting the world with this first class because he only had 2 months to try and get kids to come here....Silly to expect anything outrageous this year, Next year it will be 100 times better..Watch and see but this year We are going to probably take it on the chin and deal with it.

How is where Fulmer's class was supposed to be ranked any kind of reflection on Kiffin's staff? A better reflection on the current staff is that they have picked up several recruits, gotten in on a lot of new recruits and held on to the majority of the previous recruits. The reason that Auburn is picking up more players than us right now is because of their meltdown with committed players leaving and because they are going after less desired recruits. I wouldn't be too impressed if they are able to steal a couple of recruits, one of which hasn't been that solid of a commitment for quite a while.

It might be worth noting that the 09 class was shaping up pretty well...until recently. It might also be noted that Auburn's staff had even less time to recruit but seems to be, at least holding it's own.

I know one of the big things that Kiffin is "selling" to the recruits is getting them ready for the NFL. I wonder just how much of a selling point this really is to recruits. I'm sure that most recruits do have aspirations to get the NFL but surely they're not all stupid enough to think that playing at Tennessee gives them more of a chance to go pro than playing at Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Oklahoma, Texas, LSU, etc.

I guess what I'm saying is that I sure hope that is not the main thing that coach Kiff is banking on to be the deciding factor among these recruits.

with 6 juco players and lesser heralded players....if you go by avg rank of recruit....it's not close.

Think about it guys. Kiffin has turned away a few big recruits. He also has several kids who want to sign right now, but he is not signing them for whatever reason (don't fit system or he doesn't want them).

So yes, we are falling in the rankings a bit because of this plus the ones who decided on their own not to come to Knoxville.

We could also have a huge day tomorrow and surprise everyone.

Next year and the following year is when their recruiting should be judged. We should finish in the top 10 next year.

Who knows how CLK's "Hit the road, you won't fit in here" advice to several high-profile prospects is really playing in other recruits minds right now. Hope the straight-forward, blunt assessment approach is not being perceived as arrogance by those who've decided not to come to UT in recent days.

2009 is going to be either very tough or very surprising, and right now, I'm not sure which.

I agree with you guys on this thread. Fulmer drove this program into a deep hole that will take some time to dig out of. It's a shame that he cared more about his own needs rather than really caring about the program. Hopefully CLK and staff will be the answer. If not, one thing is for sure...CPF was deffinitely not the answer.
