Apparently, Elmore told USA Today that Pearl's suspension should be two seasons and that the penalties the University and SEC imposed constituted "mercy."

He also called Pearl's lie to the NCAA perjury...Now with him being a former prosecutor, I think he is off is rocker a bit. Surely he knows the NCAA is not a courtroom.

Pearl's punishment will be interesting.....Particularly if the team does well.

Pearl has opened himself up to this criticism by all of his previous actions. However, I never have thought a lot of Elmore's views as an analyst.

He might be one of the biggest vol haters there are. I just dont see how he can justify his opinion. What Pearl did was wrong and he should be punished but the wrath we are receiving doesnt fit the crime. I say this considering all the violations we hear about at other universities and their punishments compared to Pearl. Here's to you Mr. Len Elmo, :moon2:

Strange how quickly everyone is reacting to the Pearl issue and how slow (ie SEC OFFICE) is moving on the Auburn issue ?? Where are the calls for Auburns suspension? JMHO

Why not just say you think the guy should be placed under a show cause order? Don't dance around the issue. Say what you really think.

Facts are in on one and muddled on another.

Perjury is a big deal. I am continually amazed about how the subject is spun by political parties, coaches, and public interest groups. If you lie when you swear you are telling the truth there must be consequences.

Hat, is the 'show-cause' order an order to show cause not to fire him, not to take further action, etc..? Is it an order that is given to the AD of UT?

It's not perjury when you lie to the NCAA. It's perjury when you lie to a judge under oath, when you are under jurisdiction of a State or Federal Court. The NCAA is not a judicial body and does not even have subpoena power.

Pearl's lie is like lying to your parents about the party you had while they were out of town.

I understand what you are saying, but do you think the AA had Pearl sign some sort of disclosure statement "swearing" to his testimony?

Elmore is not a UT hater by any means. He usually likes Tennessee teams and typically speaks highly of them. I had no idea he was a former prosecutor, nor graduated from Harvard law school. On the other hand, I always thought the man was extremely smart and understood basketball very well. His statement should not be taken lightly, because he is on the board of the Knight Commission of Intercollegiate Athletics and has a very good reputation in the basketball community.

It's an order to show cause why you should be allowed to employ a given coach in whatever capacity you intend to use them in. Generally, the 'AA makes the conditions and restrictions they would place on the target coach's employment so onerous that it's a de facto ban for the period of the order.
