Can anyone tell me some legit replacements for Frank Wilson and Eddie Gran and why they would be a great fit at UT?

Not Jay Graham again. He was there a few years ago and didn't work out.

Tennessee: With Frank Wilson and Eddie Gran departing over the weekend, Lane Kiffin is in search of two assistant coaches. Kiffin talked over the weekend about taking his time and actually conducting real interviews with candidates. Kiffin last season raided other SEC coaching staffs to lure coaches. We hear some of the names already mentioned to Kiffin have been Jay Graham (South Carolina - running backs), Notre Dame wide receivers coach / recruiting coordinator Rob Ianello, and MTSU defensive coordinator Manny Diaz. Diaz once served as the special teams coordinator at NC State and has s done a terrific job recruiting the Miami / Fort Lauderdale area, which is the same area Eddie Gran recruited.

I like the idea of the ND guy

Notre Dame wide receivers coach / recruiting coordinator Rob Ianello --

That Guy would be awesome, he has done a pretty good job with recruiting and coaching up the ND receivers. Just to think Golden Tate is a native of Tenn, and he coached him up to be one of the best in the NCAA.

Anymore legit candidates?

Diaz's dad was the mayor of miami and they say he is a relentless recruiter. stories are that he loves to compete in recruiting so he sounds like O's kind of guy. also an ace st coach.

First time I heard Diaz. Sounds like an interesting choice. We desperately need some ST expertise.

I have an interesting idea to pull some of the other coaches with an idea of staying together. I know the salaries were posted but did not include bonuses for bowl games and what ever else CLK had in mind for their bonuses. How about we add Ianello as WR Coach and then add Sam Anno and Mitch Browning to the coaching staff. Allow Sam Anno to focus on Special Teams, put Ianello in charge of WR and Browning as the RB coach.

I think Browing is no longer an option as a GA. IIRC his contract payout, is over after this year. He would have to come on as an assistant. If he does, we can only hire 1 coach. I think.

I had thought about throwing Carl Frank's name out there a few days ago but was hesitant b/c of the lack of "big-time" recruits he's had. Granted he's doing it at USF and we'd definitely have a better product to sell to the FL kids that he does recruit. I believe he's making in the neighboorhood of $120k whereas Gran was $185k so if we wanted him I believe there's a good chance we could get him.

Ianello is my top choice for WR coach. I know we can't offer him the RC title, but I'd like to see us pony up some money and go after him hard. In addition to Ianello at ND is Brian Polian the ST coach, who has coached RB in the past. His recruiting resume is as good if not better than Ianello's. Robert Gillespie at Ok St could be a sleeper and one I like alot. B/c of playing at UF his territory was Florida while at S. Carolina, now that he's at Ok St he's territory is mostly Texas, and he's from Mississippi. He has ties to 4 states (SC, FL, TX & MS) as a resident, recruiter and player. All 4 of which are crucial states for us.

My favorites would be Aubrey Hill from Miami U (WR)

Curt Cignetti from Bama (WR)

Larry Porter from LSU (RB)

All those are unrealistic, but they are my favs

Mitch Browning because we need two O Line coaches?

He has been great, but I kind of wanted an RB coach and a WR coach.

I also want great ties to Texas for one and Florida for the other.

Finally, we will pay a price if we do not have at least one "good" guy on this staff.
