Over the years I've seen many football coaches exit after being fired by their schools both at UT and at other colleges. Bill Battle was the coach at UT when I was in school there. He accepted his fate with grace and humility, wishing nothing but the best for the University and the players that he recruited. John Majors left bitter and remained bitter. I remember listening to his post-game show after his final game (Vandy). He remarked that he left the cupboard completely stocked with talent and the next coach Fulmer should win the SEC in the next year or so (actually took Fulmer five).

How will Phil depart? I hope better than Majors did. However, by what I've seen so far. it won't happen, leading me to believe that Hamilton should have asked Fulmer to not coach the Wyoming game and the other final games of the season and had an interim coach (Chavis, Clawson, anybody). He has turned out to be a distraction to the program with his and his wife's mourning.

Are you going to troll the board all night and ask people why they care? Get a life.

I think it was you in the other thread that was berating a 15 year old for his spelling, who needs to get life again?

Spelling is one thing. Talking on this message board like your texting with you 15 year old friends is ridiculous.

Again, get a life.

YOU are completely crazy....... Coach Fulmer has been very respectful in his knowing departure. He has not acted crazy, and he has even said that he will always will support the Tennessee Vols. Now you are the one with, well I wont say No Class, but how about just plain stupid

Did you watch the press conference? Did you see the garbage his players did and his wife scowling into the audience like she was going to kill someone for daring to upset her husband?

You must be one of the few loyalists to the Great Pumpkin still out there. Immediately after WWII there were still Japanese snipers in trees, still loyal to the Emperor, taking shots at American soldiers!

Yea, 17 years then your gone might make a wife cry huh? and the players.... I have already argued that a long time ago. Guess you like many others have never been an athlete to know how it feels to lose your coach. Man if you people just knew as much as you think you do about sports. Try playing a sport, and get off the Keyboard.

You ever see a kid having to go somewhere he doesn't want to go. Grabbing the door, kicking and screaming the whole way out...

Let's call a truce. It's T'giving and there is leftovers to deal with plus the Texas/Texas A&M game.

I don't have a problem with anything Phil has said. The media has asked him his feelings and he's been honest about it. He's said if felt like a funeral and he's said that he believes he could have gotten things back on track, given more time. The first statement is entirely understandable, and if he didn't believe he could fix the problems, then he shouldn't be a football coach at all.

This has been nothing like the way Johnny Majors left. Johnny openly bashed the university president, Doug Dickey and Fulmer on his way out the door, and he's never stopped since, even when he was coaching his second go-round at Pitt. I haven't heard Fulmer bash anyone, regardless of what his true feelings may be.

Amen brother!!!! Let's just be glad that he is a man that cares about our school, state, and most of all the young men that he has touched their lives throughout his career at UT... We are about to have change so let's all just look forward to the 09 season, and stop Fulmer bashing....

Here is a story in today's AJC.

A small quote:

“A good friend of mine told me, and it’s true, bitterness or resentment is like taking poison and expecting somebody else to die,” he said. “I’m not going to live that way. I just choose not to."
