I'll chime in:
First off, I have trouble giving any sport trouble if it's a grueling as Soccer or Hoops. You may not enjoy or understand them (which is usually WHY people don't enjoy them), but they are true "sports," and that's tough to argue with. Having played both, in some sort or another, they are both very difficult, extremely physically demanding, and exciting. Hockey falls into that category as well (you should see me try to skate).
My philosophy of why people don't like Soccer or Hockey is that we are very much an "instant-gratification" culture. Not enough scoring for most people to watch. We want it quick and we want a lot of it -- that goes for just about anything in our society.
Golf is probably the hardest of all to play. Any schmoe can walk out front and throw a football straight, or hit a layup, or catch a baseball. But to hit a driver 250-300 yards and not break the window of an unfortunate bastard that can afford a house on the course is downright tough. Not to mention sand shots, chipping, controlling the spin off your irons. . . . .and then you have to putt. Plus, you have drama, competition down the stretch with VERY recognizable atheletes, and now Tiger even has a blonde hottie. Good sport. 'Nuff said.
Baseball -- America's pasttime, but understandable if people don't want to sit and watch for hours. MUCH MUCH better in person than on TV. And great to nap to -- just wake up about the 8th inning.
Not a big fan of Nascar -- seems like a different category to me. "Sport" to me involves the physical body, not so much machines. Please don't hurl bricks with pretty painted number 3's and 8's at me.

I'm going out on a limb and say that ESPN's coverage of the SPELLING BEE takes the cake here. I used to be a little nerdy and all, but this crap belongs on Lifetime.
