DT from Las Vegas.

"the 6-foot-5, 250-pound four-star defensive end from Western High School in Las Vegas, Nev., finished his senior season (8-3) with 120 tackles and over 60 solos and an impressive 20 sacks.

"I'm a great pass rusher," Guy said. "I come off the edge fast and can get to the quarterback. I can just shut down everything on the outside. It's hard to get around me and I don't let the tight end get down the field.

"I still want to get even faster because speed is the key in college."

Guy has around 15 scholarship offers and is Scout.com's No. 3 defensive tackle. He has narrowed his choices to four schools: Arizona State, Arizona, Oklahoma and Tennessee. Other offers include Nebraska, Michigan, Oregon, Oregon State, Washington, Washington State, Utah, UNLV, San Diego State and Illinois.

Although he denies a leader, Guy has already visited Arizona State (Oct. 27), Oklahoma (Oct. 13) and Tennessee (Nov. 3). He'll be taking his last official visit on Dec. 7 to Arizona.

"I'm really looking forward to meeting all the coaches at Arizona," he said. "I want to see how they run the program and what it's like there. They seem like good guys and I think they should be successful there."

Another school that he thinks is up-and-coming is Arizona State. "I like how well they did this year," he said. "Coach Dennis Erickson is doing really good and I think the team will be even better next year."

The Sun Devils defensive line coach Grady Stretz visited Guy at home on Dec. 6. "We just talked about the program overall and how going there could benefit me in the future," he said. "He also talked with me about how I'd fit in there and how they need someone like me."

Guy says that he has enjoyed all his visits thus far and doesn't rank one above the others. "I had a great time at all of them," he said. "I narrowed it down to these four because I've been looking at all of them and just felt that they fit my personality and style the best. I could probably see myself at any one of them.

"My trip to Oklahoma was real good," he said. "They seem to be tops in everything. It's different out there from Vegas. It's much more calm, quiet and more country. I actually liked it a lot. I felt like I really got along great with all the people there."

He says that the Tennessee visit was similar to his experience with the Sooners because both schools have "great history and tradition".

"Tennessee is huge," he said. "It's a real nice place and I loved every part of it. The stadium is big and it's crazy and very loud there. It's just a great place to be. I kind of expected Tennessee to do even better this year, but they are always a top team and I think they'll be even better next year too."

Guy says he plans to make his decision around Dec. 20. "My brother (Dell Guy who runs track at TCU) comes back for Christmas break around that time and he's gonna help me with my decision," he said. "He gives me advice and says that it's important for me to find a place where I feel comfortable living for four years."

Guy says he has never followed a specific school.

He reports a 2.7 core GPA and took the SAT on Dec. 1. He says he already took the ACT, but that, "the score just isn't coming to me. I know I'm taking it again."

I hope we can manage to land this guy. He can probably start next year.

He wouldn't start next year ahead of guys like Ben Martin or Chris Walker

He will be a DT in college. Do you think those two will be our starting ends next year?

It'll be Ben Martin and Robert Ayers at End.

Dan Williams and Bolden at Tackle
Langley should see some significant playing time.

This guy looks very good and would be a very big get, but he won't start at end or tackle his first year. Unless your Marvin Austin you're not going to start at DT as a frosh.

I see Ayers starting at end with Brown, Martin, and Williams competing for the 2nd spot. Walker will also be worked in the rotation.

At tackle, I see Williams and Bolden with Langley and Fisher in the rotation. If we can land Forston somehow, he could make an immediate impact.

Ayers and Martin will prob start, Walker will play at end as well.

Bolden, Williams and Langley will play at DT. I hope they don't move Brimfield to OL because I think he could be a beast at DT.

Ayers, Brown, Martin, Williams, and Walker have the potential to get our DE's at the level we use to have when we were great at rushing the passer.

Bolden and Williams will be very solid starters at DT. Fisher has provided some decent relief there this year. But, we desperately need Langley or Brimfield to step up and make huge strides over the off-season.

I agree. People forget that Brown was Rivals #18 DE in 2005, 4*. Martin will probably be on the field alot though if he doesn't start. He'll probably play as much as the starters.

Where do you think Andre Mathis fits into that equation... if he does?

i think our DE rotation will be Ayers and Wes Brown at the start.. while Martin, Walker, G. Williams, and Mathis back them up..
but later on.. i can see Martin Starting over Brown..

so is Rufus Williams going to be at UT next year??

What about the 6-6, 300 pound William Brimfield? Think he sees any playing time next year?

Brimfield has been practicing with the O-Line on the Scout team. Unless he loses some weight he will stay on the O-Line.

Wes Brown is our quickest DE. That is more important than speed in most situations at DE. I think he will contribute a lot next year.

quick and fast are two different things

I started off my post with the words "I don't know" ... and said Martin was faster...not quicker.

However, I thought that a strength of Martin's was how fast he got off his blocks...and his first burst of speed. At least that is what I thought I heard (quick first step)... and I was worried about him not getting that back when we thought he had torn his ACL.

Yeah, no doubt that Martin is our fastest DE. I assume he is also pretty quick because he has great overall athletic ability. I just know it has been said on more than one occasion that Wes Brown is our quickest DE. That might have been while Martin was still injured though. Brown has a great first step and his change of direction (i.e. quickness) is very good.

No complaints here...I'll take a couple of quick ends.
