Lauren Hurst a LADY VOL! 🍊🧑🍊🧑🍊

Why can't she play both the 1st year ? That is rhetorical .....she can if she wants to .
Lawdy, this has been explained at least a dozen times. No scholie room in vb for the upcomng yr. Also can't walk on as that would count against the vb scholie limit due to a rule imposed to control football two sport scholie abuse. VB would have to take an existing scholie away fm someone for Lauren to be on the VB team next fall.

Definitely for the best to defer the decision, get a taste of bball alone first. And I suspect why both coaches were willing to even entertain the idea. Knew it wasn't happening any time soon.

The explanation doesn't hold any water .She does not have to have a scholly to play VB ....I have explained that multiple times.

According to Deer Park, whose occupation involves this kind of stuff, any participation in VB by Lauren counts against their scholie limit. nEven walk on. He can explain.

As DP also pointed out, there's a big rule change on scholies coming up next year and its unknown what the limits will be after that. Which is another reason doing basketball only this year and seeing what happens makes good sense.

There isnt a debate... She didnt even mention the volleyball coaches did she... or have a video with the volleyball coaches... Just let her reach her full potential with basketball

She most certainly did say it was not necessarily the decision maker, but that UT was among several schools to provide a path to play both sports. She did so in a clip on Knoxville TV. Heard it myself. Bet DW was included in the conversation.

So, no it is not a debate that the opportunity to play both at UT IS ON THE TABLE. Hope she is an AA candidate in BB, but….,,,,,

Lauren Hurst and her family sat two rows in front of me at the Lady Vols game Saturday against Liberty. I did not know who she was at the time but now I do since I saw her photos on this thread. I figured she was a recruit the way the Lady Vol coaches and staff were fawning over her, coming over to say hello to her and her parents and giving them all hugs. I might add that Lauren is an extremely attractive young lady. We are a very lucky fanbase to have her and yes, I do hope she gets to play volleyball too as that team could definitely use her talent.

She'll fit in here like a fine bottle of Dom Perignon Champagne, on the dining room table of a 5 star restaurant....

You haven't explained anything multiple times. It's true she doesn't have to have a scholarship to play volleyball. The point you are missing is, if she has an athletic scholarship of any kind, that scholarship HAS TO COUNT toward the first sport she plays in that year. If she signed a scholarship for tiddlywinks and the first sport she plays in is leapfrog and scholarships are awarded in leapfrog, then her scholarship has to count towards the leapfrog scholarship limits. It's pretty simple and I don't understand why some can't comprehend.

Wait, so she is also going to play leapfrog and tiddlywinks (my fave sport by the way!). I don't see the leapfrog coach putting up with this!!!! Leapfrogging requires year round commitment.

Never missed that at all ;that rule will be totally demolished with the new rules and expansion of scholarships in 2025 by the NCAA ....that rule was established by NCAA to curb Bear Bryant ( Bama ) in signing athletes to track scholarships and then playing football ....a way to increase the number of football players on the squad without exceeding the Scholarship limits at that time of 30 .Whether that rule applies to women's basketball and volleyball schollies/players is foggy at best and further in todays' sports environment of NIL,transfer portal, and increased scholarships for all sports in 2025 really would render that rule null and void......that is if the NCAA is relevent at all by the start of basketball/volleyball season in 2025.Further ,if that rule applies to Womens' sports a simple request to waive would be successful and if not then if she would desire sue the NCAA and all suits against NCAA these day the NCAA caves ....So I say again if she wants to play both sports in 2025 ,then she will be able to do that no matter what type scholly she signed .....As Bugs Bunny once said " That is all Folks ".

For about the 80th time, Lauren will not be playing vball next year since no scholie space is available and even if she walked on, she'd count against the vball scholie limit due to an arcane rule in place to discourage football cheating. Scroll just a tad and you can see Deer Park has explained that over and over.

What I'd like to have explained is how anyone thinks an athlete can be a drive by player in a system like Kim's? The seasons overlap big time. How in world would it work and why would you be a half the player you could be in both worlds?
Not sure if the timing of the seasons have changed over the years, but I remember it being done at Stanford back when Tara had one of her best teams.

Kristin Folkl From 1994 until 1998, Folkl attended Stanford University and starred on their women's basketball and volleyball programs.

While at Stanford, she was a four-time volleyball All-American, a basketball all-American as a senior, an All Pac-10 member, and a two-sport academic all-American. She appeared in a total of six Final Fours (four in volleyball and two in basketball) and won three national championships in volleyball. In her senior year, she was a first team All-American in both sports and was named the GTE Academic Player of the Year. She was also a participant on the USA Women's National Volleyball Team, and was a first-alternate at the 1996 Summer Olympics.

I remember that when Folkl joined the team following Volleyball season, she took a minute to get up to basketball speed, but she was very good for Stanford.
