Can somebody explain to me exactly what the heck the premise behind "Thundarr the Barbarian" is supposed to be? This is bizarre.

(And yes, there is beer.)

I'm mostly confused by this Thundarr thing. I'm old enough to where this should have been right in my wheelhouse back in the day, but yet I've never seen it before. It's like some weird mashup of He-Man meets the postapocalyptic world of Planet of the Apes, but with He-Man swinging a lightsaber. As I said: bizarre.

Thundarr is a prime example of how things you remember fondly from your youth do not hold up the the test of time very well.

I used to love that show when I was a kid and tried to watch an episode a few years ago. ugh.

I remember it being some sort of mix of dungeons and dragons and star wars. There was wizardry, some huge wookie like character and the main guy used a lightsaber. I believe there may have been a hot chick character a la Princess Leia.

It all seemed pretty awesome when I was 11 or 12.

Is that the one with the rhino who shoots things out of his horn and he main guy has a yellow light saber deal?

EDIT: Never mind.

Hot chick: check. Lightsaber: check. Rhino shooting things out of his horn: didn't see it, but sounds entirely consistent with what I've been watching.

The "whoa, wtf?" factor came when He-Man, Hot Chick and Co. were fleeing through the jungle from some disembodied huge bad guy and suddenly they ran across an old airplane sitting there. (Apparently gassed up and ready to go, too.) I guess it's supposed to be in the future, but I can't tell exactly what's supposed to have happened. I'm sure I could google it up and find 20-30 fan pages about the show breaking it down in detail, but that feels like it would be cheating.

Are you ready for the storm Vader? I'm leaving College Station first thing in the morning.

Yeah, that's part of why I'm headed to Jackson over the weekend... that combined with the fact that I miss Jess a bunch.
